Introduction
Pragmatic Play - one of the world’s biggest and most popular iGaming slots developers - are known for their Asian-inspired games, and 5 Lions Dance is the latest game to hit online casinos. As the name suggests, 5 Lions Dance takes influence from the mighty lion - a fairly common sight in China, and a sign of prosperity and wealth. Like most of the game developer’s slots, 5 Lions Dance looks the part and the graphics are beautifully designed, rendering in HD across all devices.
Format
When it comes to the actual format of 5 Lions Dance you’ll see the slot is built around a 5-reel, 4-row format. Instead of using paylines, Pragmatic Play have, instead, opted to use a 1024-ways-to-win mechanic - something that the majority of players prefer over paylines. The 1024-ways-to-win format means you don’t need to worry about paylines - and simply lining up a 3-of-a-kind combo of symbols (in any position) from left-to-right will secure a win.
Betting Options and RTP
5 Lions Dance can be played from as little as 0.20 credits per spin and as much as 100 - although we should point out that the game is quite low variance, so many players tend to up their stake slightly, as wins are more frequent.
5 Lions Dance ships with a default RTP of 96.5%. However, Pragmatic Play are renowned for shipping their video slots with a number of RTP settings, so you should always check with the online casino you’re playin with to make sure you’re playing the highest RTP version of the game as possible. Jt’s also a low volatility slot.
5 Lions Dance’s Symbols And Payouts
As we’ve become accustomed to seeing in Pragmatic Play slots, 5 Lions Dance uses a combination of lower-paying and higher-paying symbols to make up the paying symbols. The lower-paying symbols are all represented by playing cards, and you’ll see 10, J, Q, K and A appearing on the reels. To be completely honest, these playing card values aren’t worth a huge amount and don’t do much to boost your balance - so you don’t need to pay too much attention to them.
The game’s higher-paying symbols are all different coloured lion heads, and, depending on the colour of the head landed you’ll receive a payout worth between 4X and 20X your stake. The Golden Ball symbol is 5 Lions Dance’s wild, and it substitutes for all other symbols in the game aside from the bonus scatter symbols, and this is represented by the Drum.
5 Lions Dance Bonus Features
There are two features to be found in 5 Lions Dance, and to be honest, you’ll want to keep an eye out for them as there’s not a huge amount going on in the base-game. Below, we’ll take a look at both of the bonuses and features in 5 Lions Dance so you know what to expect when playing the slot yourself!
Lion Reel Bonus
The Lion Reel Bonus is triggered by three or more of the Lion Reel symbols landing on any spin (during the base-game.) When this happens, you’ll see an animation on your screen where the first two reels merge into one big Lion reel. A multiplier is then chosen (either 5X, 10X, 20X, 25X, 50X, 75X, 100X, 150X or 200X) and a re-spin is awarded. If a win is formed on the re-spin the win amount is multiplied by the multiplier shown on the Lion reel, so there’s some great win-potential here, especially if you’re given one of the larger multipliers!
Free Spins
The main bonus round in 5 Lions Dance is the free-spins bonus and this is triggered by landing three of the Drum scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5. When you manage to do so you’ll be awarded 10 free-spins, and the spins then play out.
During the free spins bonus, any wins are paid out as normal - but before the next spin takes place any lion head symbols on the reels are transformed into the same matching lion, ensuring an extra payout and offering greater win-potential than during the base-game.
It’s also possible to re-trigger the feature; this is done by landing another three of the scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 and doing so awards a further 10 free-spins. There’s no limit on the number of times the bonus can be re-triggered.
Our Verdict Of 5 Lions Dance
When we first loaded up 5 Lions Dance we were, it’s fair to say, slightly disappointed. With so many Asian-themed slots on the market today, game developers really need to mix things up in order to stand up - and it’s probably fair to say that 5 Lions Dance doesn’t really do this. However, Pragmatic Play have managed to do something pretty cool - they’ve developed a fairly low variance slot that can actually deliver some good win-potential; up to 2,700X your stake can be won on every spin.
To be fair to Pragmatic Play we can’t fault the slot’s visuals or animations. Like most of their slots, 5 Lions Dance is impeccably designed and the look and feel of the game is better than most you find online today. There’s also a pretty soothing soundtrack that accompanies every spin, and this allows you to immerse yourself within the gameplay!
Triggering the bonus round doesn’t seem too hard - but remember, there’s no guarantees, and you may wait 5 spins or 1,000 spins. It doesn’t always pay well, but it can dish out 1-200X wins when it wants to, so it’s a decent little slot for those wanting something relaxing and relatively low in volatility.

5 Lions Dance Slot FAQs
How many paylines does 5 Lions Dance have?
5 Lions Dance doesn’t use a conventional payline structure. Instead, it’s built around a “ways-to-win” mechanic, and there’s 1024-ways-to-win. What this means, is that you don’t need to land symbols in specific positions to make a win. Instead, you just need to land three or more symbols on adjacent reels from left-to-right in order to secure a win - their position is irrelevant!
How much can you win playing 5 Lions Dance?
According to rumours online, Pragmatic Play announced that the average bonus round in 5 Lions Dance pays around 100X your stake. This does seem quite hard to believe, as the bonus seems to trigger fairly frequently, but it appears to be a legit source, so it’s a pretty decent average bonus win!
Who makes 5 Lions Dance?
5 Lions Dance is developed by a software developed called Pragmatic Play. They’re one of the biggest game developers on the planet and have a solid track record in producing high-quality, enjoyable games.
Is there a bonus buy option in 5 Lions Dance?
No. While we’ve seen Pragmatic Play starting to introduce bonus buy mechanics into some of their games (The Dog House Megaways being a good example), 5 Lions Dance doesn’t offer a bonus buy so you’ll need to grind the base-game out to trigger the feature!
