Gates of Olympus is the latest release from Pragmatic Play, and is based around their “win all ways” mechanic. The slot has a default RTP of 96.50% and can ...be played from between 0.20 and 100 credits per spin. There’s a few bonuses and features on offer too, including symbol multipliers, free spins, and, location-dependent, a bonus buy option.
- Interesting multiplier mechanic
- Similar to hit slot Sweet Bonanza
- Very volatile slot machine
- Bigger top prize would be better
Gates of Olympus is the latest release from industry-leading software provider Pragmatic Play, and this highly volatile slot carries many of the same mechanics and features as other popular titles from the software provider like Sweet Bonanza.
Format and Betting Options
The game is built around a 6-reel, 5-row format, and you can play the game from between 0.20 and 100 credits per spin. It’s fully mobile-optimized too, so you can enjoy the intense action from all of your mobile devices.
Graphics and Theme
As the name suggests, Gates of Olympus is themed in the Ancient Greek world - and it’s all based around the God Olympus, and his powerful presence. The game’s full of action, and animations include lightning bolts striking the reels and more.
When it comes to symbols, Gates of Olympus’ lower-paying symbols are different shapes - coloured green, red, purple, blue and yellow - while the higher-paying symbols are all theme-specific, and include Cups, Rings, Egg Timers and Crowns.
Gates of Olympus’ RTP and Volatility
Thanks to Pragmatic Play’s publicly-available volatility scale, we know that Gates of Olympus ranks 5/5 when it comes to variance. This means the slot is highly volatile - and it means that wins are less frequent than games that are lower in variance.
When it comes to RTP, Gates of Olympus has a fairly healthy default RTP of 96.50%. However, Pragmatic do offer their slots in flexible RTP settings, so some online casinos may choose to offer the game with a lower return to player percentage.
While not all of Pragmatic Play’s slots contain a huge number of bonuses and features, Gates of Olympus is one of their releases that does - and below, we’re going to be covering the three bonuses and features you’ll find inside the slot.
On any spin, symbols can drop down into view with multipliers attached to them. These multipliers range between 2X and 500X, and when the symbols with multipliers on them are involved with a win, the multiplier is applied to that win at the end of the winning cascade. If there are multiple multipliers in view on a single spin, they are added together at the end of the spin before being applied against the win total.
No modern-day video slot would be complete without a free-spins bonus round, and Gates of Olympus’ is triggered by landing three, four, five or six of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. You will then receive 15 free spins, along with a payout worth 3X, 5X or 100X your stake depending on the amount of scatter symbols present.
The main difference in the free-spins bonus round - compared to the base-game - is that the multipliers attached to symbols are applied globally. That means that you don’t have to worry about which symbols drop down with multipliers in view; any multipliers that are present are applied to all winning combo. What’s more, this multiplier then locks in place - it doesn’t reset between spins.
Like a number of Pragmatic Play’s slots, Gates of Olympus also contains an Ante Bet option. This - if you chose to activate it - increases the size of your stake by 25%. In return, extra scatter symbols are added to the reels (making it easier for you to form wins). In fact, Pragmatic Play have stated that the Ante Bet actually doubles your chance of hitting the bonus round - which seems pretty generous, considering it’s only a 25% increase in your stake.
Gates of Olympus Review
Like a few of Pragmatic Play’s slots we’ve seen before, Gates of Olympus uses a kind of “scatter pays” mechanic for all the symbols - meaning they don’t need to line up from left-to-right in order to form a win. This is, generally speaking, something we like - and like Sweet Bonanza, it’s a format that clearly goes down well with players as well.
The Good and the Bad
With Gates of Olympus, however, we feel Pragmatic Play has done a slightly better job than with Sweet Bonanza. While the maximum win remains the same (you can win up to 5,000X your stake while playing), we like that the symbol multipliers go up as high as 500X - as this makes hitting those big wins easier.
However, we would have liked to have seen the game’s maximum win increase, perhaps to 10,000X - to be more in-line with the fact that there’s 500X multipliers present on the reels.
We do really like the fact that the multipliers can land in the base-game as well as the free-spins bonus round. However, it does mean that, aside from a larger number of free rounds, there’s not a huge amount of point to the free spins.
Is It Worth A Spin?
On the whole, however, Gates of Olympus is a solid release from Pragmatic. The graphics are super, it offers fantastic mobile gameplay, and the big win-potential is likely to attract players from all corners of the online gambling spectrum - so we expect it to go down well once it’s released later on this month.

Gates of Olympus Slot FAQs
What bonuses and features will I find in Gates of Olympus?
There’s a couple of things going on in Gates of Olympus; first of all, there’s multiplier symbols that can display multipliers of between 2X and 500X. These multipliers are then applied to any wins formed with those symbols. There’s also a free spins round, where you’ll begin with 15 free spins. During the bonus, the multipliers aren’t restricted to a specific symbol - applying themselves to all symbols present on the reels that form part of a winning combination.
Who made Gates of Olympus?
What is the RTP of Gates of Olympus?
The default RTP of Gates of Olympus is set at 96.50%; a decent return to player in our opinion. However, PragmaticPlay, unfortunately, are one of the many software providers who offer flexible RTP settings, meaning that online gambling operators and casinos can choose to offer a lower RTP version of the game if they so choose.
What’s the maximum win in Gates of Olympus?
One of the things we’ve seen Pragmatic Play doing in the last year or two is pushing out slots that have significantly more win-potential than their older games. Gates of Olympus is no exception to this rule, and it allows you to win as much as 5,000X your stake on a single spin! Of course, actually hitting this kind of win is going to be pretty much impossible… but we’d say that wins in the region of 500-1,000X are well within reach, and we expect to see players hitting these kind of wins in the near future!
