Las Vegas is home to an array of renowned casino brands. The list is almost endless but notable stalwarts of the Las Vegas Strip include MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment, both of which offer numerous multi-storied gaming venues and have stood the test of time alongside the Bellagio fountains, Venetian canals, Cirque du Soleil, and showgirls.
Now, you could say that in Las Vegas, brand names matter but not every brand that made its home in Sin City has stuck around. Change is inevitable and the Mirage’s iconic volcano will soon see out its final days before being replaced by the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel. Many visitors to the city will also be pleased by the news that Caesars will be reinstating the Horseshoe name when its Bally’s property is officially rebranded later in the year.
Prepare for the Post-Pandemic Comeback of the Palms Hotel
Another welcome addition to the off-strip space is coming in the form of the Palms Hotel, which is scheduled to officially reopen just ahead of the NFL Draft, which is one of the biggest weekends in the Las Vegas calendar.
The Palms Hotel was one of many victims of the pandemic, despite operating for two decades with great success. As the likes of MGM and Caesars opened their doors at the earliest opportunity following the lifting of restrictions, Palms remained closed which is something that can at least partly be blamed on the change of ownership that occurred as the pandemic took hold.
The Palms Hotel boasts more than 700 rooms and suites, a convention center and meeting space, numerous dining spaces offering both upmarket and casual options, a theater with 2,500 seats, a spa, a pool, and condominiums. In December 2021, Palms was officially named as the first casino in Las Vegas to become Native American owned as the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority (SMGHA) put forward a successful bid.
The SMGHA is affiliated with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians and in a statement, Cynthia Kiser Murphey, the General Manager of Palms, highlighted how important it is for the team to ensure that the culture, value and ethos of the Tribe is present in everything they do moving forwards. Murphey went on to state that it is their intention to provide first-class customer service within a fun and lively environment.
When is the Palms Hotel Opening?
The Palms will officially reopen on April 27, which is just in time for the much-anticipated NFL Draft. This is a smart move because the hotel is located just a block away from where all of the major events are being held.
Additionally, crowds are beginning to flock to Las Vegas as concerns surrounding the pandemic are reducing. Not only is this excellent news for the Palms team, but it is also being welcomed by all the big players in the city.
Anthony Carano, COO of Caesars, noted during the Q4 earnings call that crowds are finally starting to normalize. The same picture was echoed in MGM’s earnings call for Q4, with CEO Bill Hornbuckle indicating that cancellations are decreasing and bookings are beginning to outpace levels seen back in 2019.
