The Sac and Fox Nation of Missouri in Kansas and Nebraska is one of three federally recognized tribes of Sauk and Meskwaki (Fox). The reservation may span two states but the town of Powhattan is tiny. In the 2020 census it only had 69 people, but it’s also the address of the Sac and Fox Casino, with 100s of slots as well as bingo and poker. With a truck stop, electrical hookups for RVs, and bus tours, it’s the perfect place for passing through.

Casino Games

It may be based in a small town but this Kansas casino actually has a pretty impressive selection of games, especially slots. The tables are a bit more limited, confined only to poker, but there’s bingo as well. Sac and Fox unlocks its doors at 8 am every day, shutting at midnight from Monday to Thursday but staying open until 2 am on Friday and Saturday.

There is no hotel so you can’t stay the night at Sac and Fox but it’s still pretty well-supplied for people passing through Powhattan. There are multiple dining options on-site, plus a gift shop. The truck stop offers everything someone might need for a break from the road.

Dining

First up is The Lodge, providing customers with refreshments since 1997. There’s a sit-down buffet on offer, with weekend and brunch specials. A deal on all-you-can-eat crab legs has proven particularly popular.

Then there’s the Express Cafe, open from 11 am to 8 pm from Monday to Thursday. This is where you go when you need a quick snack to take the edge off your hunger, perhaps with a cup of coffee or a milkshake.

For those of you who fancy a stiffer drink, and perhaps the opportunity to watch some live sports at the same time, then you should try out the Bar Lounge. It has regular specials with beer, cocktails, and other alcohol. 

Gift Shop

Support local Sac and Fox craftspeople and artisans by purchasing clothing, leather purses, and traditional Native American jewelry along with other souvenirs to help preserve the memory of your special trip. 

Bus Tours

RVs

It’s not the most convenient site for RVs as you can’t stay for long and there are no water or sewage connections, but you can make use of the fill station and dump station as well as plug into electrical hookups for 20, 30, or 50 amps.

Truck Stop

This isn’t just a place where you can fill up on gas, though obviously that’s important. Pop into the convenience store for drinks, snacks, and tobacco products as well as for Native American merchandise and other souvenirs. You can also clean yourself up in the showers. We were pleasantly surprised by the number and diversity of the slots available in the Sac and Fox Casino. It would be nice to have a little more option on the tables, whether other games or just a few different variations of poker.
