Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

CT Gaming are really banking on the fact that you will enjoy looking at some jewels planted on a quilted, olive-green background and that this will distract you from the game’s numerous shortcomings. There are numerous gems of almost every possible colour and yet they haven’t bothered to make them glow or sparkle. Of course, if they had, that would be entirely misleading.

And as you will have come to expect if you are familiar with CT Gaming, there is no soundtrack per se. Despite being asked on the startup page if you want music, the only way you’ll be getting any is if you let the game go idle and it decides to wake you up! And it’s really annoying. Nothing whatsoever to do with jewels or medieval times.

As far as game sound effects, there’s a few clicks, a coin jingle and a short burst of...something, if you win. Nothing to write home about, so we suggest you choose your own music because you won’t be missing anything by sticking this game on mute. You might as well pick a big trashy blingy playlist focusing on ‘ice’, ‘rocks’, ‘diamonds’ whatever you want to call them. It’s about as much fun as you’re going to get here.

How to Play Magic Crown

1. Use the blue ‘i’ button in the top left corner of the screen to view the win amounts for each combination.

2. To play in autoplay mode, use the green settings icon in the bottom left of the screen and adjust the AUTOPLAY settings using the plus and minus buttons.

3. In the bottom centre of the screen the total bet amount is displayed. You can adjust this by clicking the green settings icon in the bottom left of the screen. Once you’re in the settings you can adjust the line bet using the plus and minus buttons. In demo mode, the number of lines played is fixed at 100.

4. To start play, click the large red SPIN button in the bottom right of the screen.

The Gold Coin is the game’s Wild Symbol and it will substitute for all other symbols apart from the Scatter.

Crown Scatter and Multiplier

The Crown is the game’s Scatter Symbol. If you manage to get three or more anywhere on the reels, you will be invited to select one. You will then be rewarded with a multiplier of x4, x6, x7 or x200.

Our Verdict    

So, this is categorised as one of the medieval slots, but really there’s very little linking Magic Crown to this category. There are no castles, battles, anything which might give you a clue as to the time period it’s supposed to be set in. Just a crown and some jewels. Well, those still exist, nothing medieval about it.

If you’re not familiar with CT Gaming then you may be shocked to learn that a bog standard Scatter, Wild and Multiplier represents what is probably the most feature heavy game from this developer that we’ve ever seen. Make of that what you will.

Unfortunately, the (slight) improvement in features, i.e., having any at all to speak of, is where it ends. The slow, clunky interface and poor execution that tarnishes all of their titles is present and correct. The max win is variously stated as 41.6x total bet or x200, which is via the Scatter multiplier. Similarly, the combination payouts are eye wateringly low. Yes, we’re actually crying.

You might expect that with little else to recommend it, CT Gaming would have given this game a decent RTP, but no. How high would it need to be before we would bother to play it again? About 110%.
