Blood Romance is a brooding slot. Its atmosphere of fire and brimstone is a feast of deep reds and fiery animations. Set in the heart of a volcano, it features cascading waterfalls of magma, red hot coals and even an imposing fire demon who stands imperiously at the side of the reels, occasionally swelling with excess lava.

It’s one of the most densely evocative settings that we’ve seen, and it’s obvious that Mancala Gaming has put a great deal of work into the animations (the demon and the lava waterfalls, in particular, look fantastic).

Little touches abound, like how the spin button transforms into a devilish pentagram when pressed. Dramatic, heavy metal music pulses and pounds in the background, only heightening the atmosphere of extreme tension.

We would have preferred a little more variation on the symbols, which all look broadly similar, but we can understand why Mancala Gaming went down this route.

How to play Blood Romance

Blood Romance can seem almost overwhelming with its flowing lava and armour clad demons. This quick start guide should help you get to grips with the game!

1. When Blood Romance has loaded, you’ll see a large button marked “i” towards the lower left hand portion of the screen. Pressing that opens the main menu.

2. Using the blue arrows to scroll from one screen to the next, familiarise yourself with the number of paylines, rules, and all the information associated with bonus features.

3. Press the giant red cross to exit this menu.

4. Blood Romance has an extremely simple interface. Adjusting your wager is as simple as pressing the left and right arrows on the box labelled "bet."

5. The small red A next to the main “play” button allows you to set autoplay. There are, however, no loss/win limits, and the reels will spin indefinitely until you press the button again.

6. Decide how much you want to spend during this session, and then press the red play button to start the action!

Concluding thoughts

There aren’t many online slots as spectacular as Blood Romance, and fewer still that have an immediate “wow factor.” From the moment that it loads, Blood Romance’s fiery animations and smouldering graphics make it stand out from the crowd.

We were hugely impressed with the brooding atmosphere, which is complemented wonderfully by that crunchy heavy metal soundtrack. Graphics and music alone aren’t enough to distinguish a slot, of course, but Blood Romance also comes with free spins and the fantastic bonus pick game, which was our favourite feature.

The aesthetic is let down slightly by somewhat basic symbol design, but other than that Mancala Gaming has created a slot which combines fantastic graphics and sound with high octane gameplay - a combination which shouldn’t be missed.
