Theme, graphics and soundtrack

We certainly can’t fault the graphics of this game. The backdrop of the Inca temple by the river with the sun shining through the trees is a very striking image. The music is atmospheric and very fitting. The symbols are very nicely drawn and animated. Howver, as we’ve come to expect from Eurasian, the reels are frustratingly small which reduces the power of the imagery.

How to play Gold Trail

1. Click - or + to select the total bet.
2. Press SPIN to spin the reels with the current bet. Alternatively you can press the space bar to spin.
3. If you click Power you give yourself the option to enable the Buy Fee Spins feature and to enable Fast Play. Fast Play is not to be confused with turbo play. It simply spins the wheels rapidly for the selected number of times and the progress is concealed behind the front screen with only the result made visible. The feature stops if a bonus is triggered.
4. For auto-play mode press the Auto button, then select the number of spins to auto-play from 10 to infinity or until Free Spins is triggered.
5. You may end the automatic game by pressing the stop button to the left of the turbo switch.

Gold Trail bonus features

Free Spins Bonus

If 3 or more scatters land then 10 free spins are awarded. On each free spin 3 to 10 cells are marked on the play window. The frames of marked cells containing symbols which are part of winning combinations will turn gold and remain in their gold frames until the end of the free spins feature. At the conclusion, if the play screen contains 6 or more gold frames the Treasure Hunt feature will be triggered. Free spins can be retriggered during the bonus. The Treasure Hunt will not be triggered during the free spins until the end if 6 or more gold frames have appeared.

Gamble Feature

To gamble any win press the Gamble button. You then need to choose red or black. If the card turns and you have chosen correctly your bet is doubled, if not you lose your winnings. If you win you may continue to gamble up to 5 times. The gamble feature can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu. The gamble feature is not available during autoplay.

Treasure Hunt Feature

During the feature a prize symbol is placed on every gold frame, each one with a pay amount associated. 5 spins are awarded during which further prize symbols can be won. A prize symbol landing on any cell will stay in place for the rest of the bonus. Each new prize symbol adds one more spin. The bonus ends when all spins have been used or every cell contains a prize symbol. The prizes that can be won are:

Major = 100x
Grand = 1200x
Minor = 50x

To win the Grand prize you need every cell to contain a prize symbol. To win Major and Minor you need one cell to feature one of these matching symbols.

Gold Trail review: our verdict

This is the usual quality mix of visuals and features - the gamble feature is always a nice diversion and the treasure hunt is a cleverly constructed extra. The bet range is low and the RTP is unrecorded, but it’s certainly entertaining.
