Introduction

When you cut a slot back to its most basic form, it probably looks a little like Megawins from Rival Gaming. It’s a traditional fruit machine theme with only three reels and five paylines, as well as a lack of any kind of bonus feature. Now, that’s a way to avoid confusion and complication in your gameplay.

Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

Fruit machines are the most classic slot theme and do tend to have simple gameplay, but Megawins is pretty basic even by that standard. For example, the only actual fruit on the reels is the cherries symbol. Then there are three kinds of Bar and three kinds of 7. It’s hardly a diverse range, even with the somewhat more interesting eagle at the top. There is a relatively energetic soundtrack that makes things more fun, the colours are fairly bright, and the tumbling coins decorating the striped background offer some promise, though not necessarily a promise that will be fulfilled with prizes.

Megawins RTP and Variance

Rival Gaming slots do tend to have average returns on the lower side, but even by their standards, the 94.3% RTP is unimpressive. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun playing the game or there won’t be some variation, but it does mean you shouldn't set your expectations too high. Rival Gaming haven’t released an official variance figure, so if you want to know about frequency of wins, the best way to find out is trying the free demo mode for a few spins.

How to Play Megawins

It doesn’t get much simpler than this:

  1. Rival Gaming slots tend to follow the same format in terms of buttons and controls, so if you’ve played one of their slots before, most things will be where you expect them to be.
  2. That starts in the bottom left corner of the screen, where the “i” button will lead you to the paytable to check how much each symbol is worth.
  3. The button for the paytable is above a set of four buttons, most of which are self-explanatory. If you are confused or have questions, start with the speech bubble that connects you directly to customer service.
  4. There’s one button that looks like a gear, which you can use to open Settings. This starts with toggles to enable sounds generally or background sounds specifically. You can also slide the master volume control from one to ten.
  5. On this page, you’ll also find the option to switch between slow, medium and fast mode depending on how you like it. Clicking the question mark at the top of the box will switch you to an "about the game" page.
  6. Volume can also be muted or unmuted using the speaker button to the back on the main screen. The "about the game" page can also be found by clicking the question mark button.
  7. Once you’ve adjusted all these settings and read through the game rules, you need to choose your preferred bet level. You can do this with the up and down arrows labelled “Value” and “Coin” or by clicking Max Bet (though this will automatically set the reels spinning, so make sure you want the high bet).
  8. You also have the option of adjusting your paylines, reducing from the maximum five all the way down to one if you want, though that reduces your chances of winning. However, it does mean a lower bet.
  9. Now you need to make sure you have set your budget, including loss and single win limits as stopping points. You can see your current balance at the bottom right of the screen.
  10. There are two ways to play Megawins. If you click the Spin button at the centre of the screen, the reels will turn once, then you can reconsider any settings. If you click Auto, next to Spin, you can set up to 100 automatic turns of the reels. It’s quicker and easier, but you can’t include your win and loss limits.

Bet & Win Sizes

There are two bet adjustors. The Value adjustor goes from 0.01 to 5.00. The Coin adjustor goes from 1 to 3. This means an overall bet of 0.01 to 15.00. You can also change your total bet by adjusting the number of lines in play.

You win when you match symbols consecutively from left to right across a payline. How much you win depends on whether you have one, two or three coins, with the paytable looking like this:

Two Cherries - 2, 4, 6

Three Cherries - 5, 10, 15

Blue Bar - 10, 20, 30

Green Double Bar - 20, 40, 60

Red Triple Bar - 30, 60, 90

Green 7s - 60, 120, 180

Purple 7s - 80, 160, 240

Orange 7s - 100, 200, 300

Eagle - 1500, 3000, 5000

You can also win from combining different symbols:

Any three 7s - 7, 14, 21

Any three Bars - 3, 6, 9

Megawins Bonus Features

This is the simplest of simple games, and that means there are absolutely no bonus features. That doesn’t just mean you’re missing free spins or multipliers - it means there aren’t even any Wild or Scatter symbols. It makes for quite a different experience compared to most modern slots and may take some adjustment.

Megawins Review

Sometimes you want to play a classic fruit machine, enjoying the retro feel and a return to the basics regarding gameplay. Megawins doesn’t have bad graphics, but when it comes to simplicity, it may overdo it a little. There really isn’t anything here other than those five paylines with their traditional symbols. You may enjoy it for a while, but then you’re probably going to want to move on to something more like the Mega Fortune slot.
