Introduction
Based on the earlier T-Rex slots game, T-Rex II essentially serves up more of the same. There are multiplier wilds and transforming wilds to look forward to, alongside plenty of free spins. Real-money players could even access the two progressive jackpot prizes if they play at high enough stakes, but does the high volatility make this game too risky to play? We take a trip back into prehistory to find out!
Theme, graphics & soundtrack
Dinosaur themed slot games - of which we have a surprising number - tend to feature cartoon-style graphics; however, RealTime Gaming has upped the ante with slightly scarier imagery, although there is still plenty of colour to be found on the reels.
In addition to the T-Rex itself, there is also a triceratops, a raptor and a suchomimus, which apparently resembled a crocodile. These are joined by the playing card symbols in a jungle setting, with some fairly impressive T-Rex animations when the Terror Wild feature is triggered.
There is a promisingly epic soundtrack - at least for the first few minutes of gameplay. It quickly transpires that the same four chords are played over and over, which quickly becomes irritating.

T-Rex II RTP and variance
The RTP of 95.5 per cent is neither disappointing nor exciting, but the 5,000x potential top prize tells seasoned players all they need to know. The volatility of T-Rex II is very high, so big wins are few and far between. Low-value wins give the impression you are pulling ahead, but a look at the game balance tells you otherwise! For this reason, we recommend playing the most volatile Realtime Gaming slots extensively in demo mode here at Slots Temple in the first instance, as this is the risk-free way of finding out how far your gaming budget could take you in your favourite online casino.
How to play T-Rex II
The control panel for T-Rex II is set out very intuitively, so it should only take a few moments to get started:
- Set your game budget - or if you are playing for free, make a note of your starting balance. We suggest allowing for at least 200 spins, although we are not guaranteeing that this is sufficient to land a decent win.
- Now decide how many paylines to include, from 1 to 25. For the best winning chances, always activate them all.
- Set your coin value for the game, which will be multiplied by the number of active paylines. The cost of your spin is displayed in the total bet window.
- Press the spin button to start your game; alternatively, autoplay lets you play multiple automatic spins, which is particularly useful for higher volatility games.
- The menu button takes you to the game’s paytable, rules and sound settings. You can also review your session history.
Bet sizes & paytable wins
Coin values range from 0.01 to 0.25 per payline. With all 25 paylines active, this gives wagering options from 0.25 to 6.25 per spin, at least when playing the demo version of the game. Match three or more low-value symbols or two or more high-value symbols to win cash prizes paid as multiples of your payline bet. The exception is the scatter, which pays out as multiples of your total stake per spin:
- Nine, ten, jack = 5x, 25x, 125x
- Queen, king, ace = 5x, 30x, 250x
- Purple flowers = 10x, 50x, 300x
- Raptor = 2x, 15x, 100x, 1,000x
- Suchomimus = 3x, 25x, 125x, 1,250x
- Triceratops = 5x, 50x, 250x, 2,500x
- Four or five scatters award 10x and 200x the amount of your total stake respectively.
T-Rex II bonus features & free spins
The mighty T-Rex is the game’s wild symbol, appearing on the first reel of the game and substituting for all other icons except the scatter. Better still, when it forms part of a winning combination, it adds a 2x multiplier to boost your prize fund.
In the Terror Wilds feature, the T-Rex feasts on any other dinosaur on a potential payline, turning this symbol wild too.
Look out for the egg scatter, which is the key to activating the free spins bonus round. The number of spins depends on how many scatters you land:
3 scatters = 10 free spins
4 scatters = 20 free spins and 10x your total stake
5 scatters = 100 free spins and 100x your total stake
The minor and major progressive jackpot prizes can be won randomly when playing at high stakes in an online casino.
T-Rex II review: our verdict
There is no denying that T-Rex II is a good-looking game with some excellent features. The soundtrack is disappointing, but the graphics, animations and gameplay are all excellent. There are some promising wins to be had, particularly for those lucky enough to land the free spins bonus rounds, but this can take ages in higher-volatility games such as this one. T-Rex II is potentially one for the high rollers, but the stakes are just a little too high for the rest of us!
If you are looking for a little movie magic along with your dinosaur-spinning action, be sure to explore Jurassic World while you are here. With lower volatility and 243 ways to win with every spin, it offers a less stressful bankroll experience than T-Rex II and a more immersive gaming session.
