Introduction

Mystery Drop is another Stakelogic game that draws on the tried and tested format of the fruit machine; however, unlike other Stakelogic slots that mine this particular lode, Mystery Drop mixes things up a little. It is still on the more literal side of slot games compared with games such as Stakelogic's Viking Smash and is conspicuously lacking in staples such as scatters and wild symbols; however, it does have a few interesting features that are not exactly run of the mill.

Mystery Drop uses a standard 5x3 grid that increases to 5x6 and has 486 to 15,552 paylines. There is no choice of coin size. The bet size ranges from 0.20 to 5 and there are 13 symbols: the lucky seven, star, bell, grapes, plum, lemon and cherries and the playing cards from nine to ace. Wins pay from left to right and right to left.

Theme, graphics and soundtrack

Although this has a traditional format, the look is much more imaginative. The symbols drop onto the reels rather than spinning, and it is all neons and flashing lights with a slow electronic soundtrack and effects. The overall effect is attractive and fresh.

According to the developer, Mystery Drop has an RTP of 95.59 per cent, which is just below average. The variance is high.

How to play Mystery Drop

1. Click the spin button or press the space bar to start playing using the current total bet. 
2. Alternatively, click the autospin button to start continuous play using your selected bet per line. Click the button again to stop autoplay at any time.
3. Activate max bet to play with the maximum allowable bet.
4. Alternatively, use the + and - buttons to customise the bet settings per line. 
5. Click turbo spin to activate high-speed play. The default setting for turbo spin is off.
6. Double your bet to activate a special super stake mode for extra chances of making winning combinations.

Free spins are triggered when all the reels reach a size of six during the base game or can be bought through the buy bonus. The free spins start with a reel size of six. There is a multiplier that starts at two and increases by one for every win and four if all the reels reach a size of nine. The multiplier is also increased by three at this stage. Free spins have a winning maximum cap of 50,000x your bet without super stake and 25,000x with super stake.

This is a fairly inventive variation on the fruit machine with a lot of decent features to make up for the lack of wilds, scatters and a progressive jackpot. There may not be a narrative behind it but it looks sharp, sounds smart, and delivers a lot of interesting twists and options. Mystery Drop is a nice alternative to the strictly retro.
