Introduction
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is the latest slot to be released by Pragmatic Play, and this cluster-pays-format slot is a unique addition to the software provider’s range, offering players the chance to enjoy a format we’ve seldom seen from the game developer before.
In this The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew review, we’re going to give you an in-depth and impartial look into what the game has to offer, covering everything from the betting options, format, the graphics and theme and a look at all of the bonuses and features you’ll find.
Format and Betting Options
The way Pragmatic has chosen to develop The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is something quite new for them; although, those who’re fans of Play’n Go slots will likely recognise the format; the game is designed around a 7X7 grid format.
Cluster Pays
Rather than paylines, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew uses a cluster pays mechanic. This means that wins are formed by landing five or more of the same symbol in a ‘cluster’.
The symbols that are involved with the winning cluster are then swept off the reels, with new symbols dropping down to take their place. This process continues for as long as new wins are formed - which, from our experience, can be quite a long time!
Betting Range
When it comes to betting options, the game developer has chosen to use their typical stake range in The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew, and you’ll be able to place a bet from as little as 0.20 credits, and as much as 100 credits per spin. It’s easy to select which stake size you want to play at, and, like all of the game developer’s games, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew also offers an autoplay function and a quickspin setting.

Graphics and Theme
As the name somewhat gives away, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is themed around witches, and the reels themselves are set deep within a witch’s lair. The game doesn't offer the most impressive visuals we’ve ever seen from Pragmatic, but they do a fairly good job of making the slot colourful and appealing, and it certainly doesn’t look bad.
When it comes to the symbols, however, we do feel that the software provider could have done a slightly better job. They just look a bit bland, and we do feel that the symbols could have had more work put into them.
Volatility
Like the vast majority of Pragmatic’s recent video slots, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is a volatile slot, and this means the base-game can be quite unforgiving at times.
When it comes to the maximum win, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew offers a win-cap of 5,000X your stake. That’s a pretty common figure for slots built around the 7X7 grid format we see The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew built around.
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew RTP
When it comes to the RTP, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew does better than most of the software provider’s games, with the default RTP set at 96.44%. This is actually quite high - even among other game developers - and it’s refreshing to see Pragmatic choosing to increase their return to player percentages slightly.
On the other side of the coin, the game developer is known for offering online casinos the ability to choose lower RTP settings, and this is likely going to be the case with The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew. Because of this, always try to make sure you’re playing the game at the highest RTP setting possible.
Bonus Features
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew offers a whopping 9 different bonuses and features, and like most of the grid-format video slots we see today, the main point of the game is the reel modifiers. Each time you form a winning combo you’ll collect symbols, and when you’ve collected enough of these symbols you’ll be awarded one of the many reel modifiers on offer.
We should also point out that there’s a tumble feature built into the game. We mentioned this earlier but it is technically a bonus - so we wanted to point it out again here.
Progressive Features
On the left-hand-side of the reels you'll notice there’s a cauldron, filled with bubbling potion. Every time you manage to land a winning combination of symbols, the number of symbols involved with the win are added to this cauldron.
If you manage to add 25 symbols to the cauldron you’ll trigger one of the progressive features - which are picked at random - and these include the following:
- Befuddlement feature: all the higher-paying symbols transform into a lower-paying symbol.
- Invisibrew feature: all of the lower-paying symbols are removed from the reels, and a new spin begins.
- Enlarging Ale feature: a block of colossal 3×3 or 4×4 symbols are randomly placed onto the reels.
- Balm of Transfiguration feature: one of the lower-paying symbols is chosen at random. All instances of this lower-paying symbol then transform into one of the higher-paying symbols.
Now, if you manage to land 125 symbols - triggering the 5th reel modifier - you’ll then be awarded one of the two following features:
- Potion of Darkness feature: when this feature is awarded, all of the lower-paying symbols are removed from the reels. A new spin is awarded, and this sees only higher-paying symbols dropping down into view. Any following tumbles also include the higher-paying symbols only.
- Unicorn Dust feature: when this feature triggers, three or four of the special Unicorn Wilds are added to random positions on the reels. These special wilds come with a starting 1x or 2x multiplier attached. If the wild then forms part of a winning combination, it will remain in place on the screen, for the next tumble, and its win multiplier will increase by +1. This continues up to a maximum of 20X.
Elixir Wilds Feature
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew also has a couple of random/consistent features, the first of which is called the elixir wilds feature. On a spin when a win doesn’t form, this feature can randomly trigger, and when it does, anywhere from 4 to 8 wilds symbols are placed randomly onto the game grid.
Moon Seed Mark Feature
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew also has a unique feature, and on every spin, one of the lower-paying symbols in The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is randomly selected. You’ll see which symbol has been selected by a small blue light appearing around the selected symbol.
If you manage to land a winning combination over one of these special spaces, the moon seed mark bonus is triggered, and a minimum of two wild symbols will then be added to the position where the winning cluster was formed.
The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew Review
In case you weren’t paying attention, The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is very similar to Play’n Go’s Reactoonz. Sure, there are some differences - there’s no Gargatoon feature, for example - but the whole ‘fill the metre with 25 symbols’ and the awarding of a reel modifier after doing so is exactly what we find in Reactoonz.
Compared to Other Cluster Slots
It’s clear grid games are becoming more popular - we’re seeing them released by game developers like Elk Studios and Fantasma Games - but at least those releases offer something a bit different. The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is very closely related to Reactoonz, and it’s likely going to get a bit of stick from players because of this.
What Sets The Wild Cauldron Apart
That being said, Pragmatic Play has managed to change things up slightly in terms of the main feature, and we do like the fact that there’s two main reel modifiers/bonuses that can trigger upon landing 125 symbols. This is remarkably different from Reactoonz, and it’s perhaps the game’s ‘saving grace’, in terms of differentiating it.
It’s clearly designed around the Reactoonz mechanic, but Pragmatic Play might have just done enough to insure the two don’t get lumped together. The Magic Cauldron: Enchanted Brew is pretty fun to play, and with up to 5,000X your stake up for grabs thanks to the reels modifiers, there’s some decent win-potential packed in too.
