Introduction
Matrix Studios slots have a distinctive house style. The more of their games you play the more you come to recognise certain features and stylistic traits. For example, they frequently include the scratch game option, and there is invariably a free spins bonus round. In Creatures of Atlantis they’ve chosen to rework a fairly familiar mythical underwater theme which you’ll probably know from games like ReelPlay’s Atlantic Megaways slot. But what kind of job have Matrix made if it?
Creatures of Atlantis has a five-reel, five-column grid with 3125 potential pay ways. The minimum bet size is 0.30 and the maximum is 150. There are 10 regular symbols: the Blue Mermaid, the Green Mermaid, the Purple Swimmer, Poseidon, the Crown and five precious jewels -Topaz, Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Violet. The wild is a Trident, and the five gems also appear in separate roles in one of the special features.
Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack
Oddly, this is set not in Atlantis but on a remote beach. Equally oddly, the clouds move but the waves don’t. The soundtrack is ambient rather than melodic or dramatic. The animation of the reels is adequate. On the whole it is visually a little lacking in character. The graphic possibilities of the subject have not been very thoroughly explored.
Creatures of Atlantis RTP and Variance
According to Matrix Studios, Creatures of Atlantis’s RTP is 95.17 per cent, which is below average, and its volatility is high.
How to Play Creatures of Atlantis
- The game is played with 3125 pay ways, all combinations paying from left to right on adjacent reels. Wild symbols substitute for all other symbols except scatters.
- In order to set your bet you need to open the three-dot menu. Here you’ll see a slider which you can move left for a lower bet and right for a higher one. Alternatively, you can select the options given in the boxes.
- In this menu you can also access the auto play settings. You can select a number of auto spins from 1 to 100. You can set also autoplay mode to stop on any win, on a bonus win and if a single win should exceed a set amount. Auto mode can also be set to cancel when your balance decreases or increases by a specified amount
- The turbo button allows you to switch to fast-play mode.
- To the top right you’ll see a Scratch button. When you select this the reels are replaced with a virtual scratch card. Now press play. You can either scratch off the foil with the cursor or clear the whole card by clicking on the magic wand button. Click the ‘slot’ button to return to the main game.
- The balance counter in the middle of the screen will show you your current balance, and your winnings are displayed to the right.
- Click the large circular arrow button to start the reels spinning.
- Please play gambling games responsibly. If you are playing for money, please don’t wager any more than you can afford to lose.

Creatures of Atlantis Review: Our Verdict
It’s very recognisably a Matrix game with all the virtues we’ve come to expect and plenty going on, but it feels a bit like a filler while they were waiting for the next big idea. It will pass the time but won’t bowl you over.
