Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

The name of the game belies the actual style, design and overall feel. This is nothing like Gladiator, Spartacus or any of the other gladiator themed slot games. Evoplay have reimagined a popular themeand created a cute, almost comical version.

The 7x7 grid features eight regular symbols which are so colourful and bold that they actually look like little stickers. Symbols include Roman helmets, shields, fire and swords. The grid has a plain brown background, and the action takes place on top of the reel set, which is set in the cut-out of a hill. There is continuous animation as the soldiers battle to the death, literally in that some of the characters are skulls in helmets, whilst the occasional bit of earth drops to the ground and past the reels.

Arachnophobes should be warned that sometimes the skulls develop spider legs and crawl away. There is also the occasional piece of tumbleweed that drifts past.

The whole thing is zany, different and eminently watchable.

The music is just background noise which neither lifts nor detracts from the game.

Gladiator’s Enemies - every time a winning combination lands and replacement symbols fall the gladiator does damage to the health of the enemy and they lose a heart. When symbols stop dropping, however, their health returns to the maximum. If Kilevilus kills all the enemies, then free spins are awarded. The more enemies that are killed, the more free spinsare won.

One Enemy Killed = 10 free spins
Two Enemies Killed = 15 free spins
Three Enemies Killed = 20 free spins

There are three types of free spin available, and a gladiator will be randomly selected at the start of the free spins round. Each gladiator represents a different modifier.

Wild Crixus - after each spin up to three random symbols will be replaced with a wild. For each defeated enemy, an extra symbol is turned wild.
Maximus - free spins with a X2 multiplier. The multiplier increases by x1 for every enemy killed.
Spintacus - two random symbols swap positions to create increased win combinations. Another symbol swaps position for each defeated enemy.
