Introduction

Joker Lanterns is a brand-new slot from Kalamba Games, designed to tie in nicely with Halloween. The slot is based on some of the game developer’s other top hits like Joker Supreme and Joker Max, and Joker Lanterns is a take on a classic slot, with a bit of Halloween-esque mystery added into the mix. Format and RTP

In terms of the game itself, Joker Lanterns is built around a 6-reel, 4-row format and there’s a total of 40 paylines in play at all times; these paylines are fixed, so you'll be unable to change the number in play. The game has an RTP of 96.1% and it has highly volatile gameplay.

Joker Lanterns Symbols And Payouts

In keeping with the retro/classic look and feel of the slot, Kalamba Games have opted to use a variety of fruity-like symbols on the reels, and you’ll also notice that there’s a combination of lower-paying and higher-paying ones. The lower-paying symbols are mostly fruits, and there’s also a couple of other fruit machine-inspired icons. They include Cherries, Plums, Grapes, Watermelons, a Clover and a Bell. These symbols really aren’t worth much, with the top-paying one, the Bell, paying just 2X your stake for a 6-of-a-kind combo.

The game’s so-called “premium” symbols are where things start to get a little more interesting - and while, still, they don’t pay huge amounts of money, they do start to add up, especially during the free-spins bonus with the multiplier active. The higher-paying symbols include a BAR, a double BAR, a triple BAR, a Flaming Red 7 and the Joker Lantern itself - and it’s the Lantern that pays the best, awarding a payout worth 20X for matching a 6-of-a-kind combo.

The scatter symbols - the ones that trigger the main free-spins bonus - are represented by the “BONUS” symbol, and there’s also some special red Jackpot symbols which we’ll talk about in the next section of this Joker Lanterns slot review.

Joker Lanterns HyperBet Levels

HyperBet Levels are something we’ve seen in a number of Kalamba Games’ other slots, and on the right-hand-side of the reels you’ll be able to use the HyperBet selector to change the multiplier wild value during the base-game. Doing so will, of course, increase the cost of your stake - but there’s other benefits of using it too, including a heightened RTP and, the higher the HyperBet, the more free-spins you begin with when the bonus round is triggered.

Bonus Jackpots

On the reels, you’ll notice that there are special “JACKPOT” symbols - these are red coins with the text overlaid on top of them. Landing 7 or more of these symbols anywhere in view will award the Bronze Jackpot, while landing 9 or more in view awards the Silver Jackpot. If you land 12 or 13 of the symbols you’ll scoop the Gold Jackpot, and if you manage to get really lucky and land 14 or more of the symbols you’ll be awarded the Platinum Jackpot - and this is where the really big money is won!

Free Spins

If you land three or more of the bonus scatter symbols anywhere in view, you’ll trigger the Free Spins bonus. You’ll then be paid either 3X or 4X your stake as a cash prize depending on how many of the scatter symbols you land.

During the free-spins there isn’t a massive amount going on, but each time you collect three of the bonus stars you will be awarded an additional three free games, and it’s pretty common for this “re-trigger” mechanic to go on for quite some time - so you can expect the bonus round to end up lasting quite a long time! Our Verdict Of Joker Lanterns

Kalamba Games - as one of the world’s smaller game developers - have their work cut out for them when it comes to game development. They may not be one of the best-known names in the iGaming world, but that doesn’t prevent them from putting their all into every game they push out - and Joker Lanterns is a great example of what can be accomplished when the studio really put their minds at it.

While the game itself looks somewhat basic, the gameplay is anything but - and from the moment you begin playing you’ll be immersed in the classic, retro type of world the software provider has aimed to create. We really like how the RTP can be as high as 97.42% - and while you do need to have the HyperBet activated to achieve this high RTP - it’s one of the highest RTPs you’ll find around today, so we’d actually expect to see Joker Lanterns excluded from being able to be played using casino bonus funds.

We also like how players can win just upwards of 10,000X stake. While this isn’t as much as we see in games like Dead or Alive II or Jammin’ Jars it is significantly more than most games - and when you consider that most Play’n Go slots come with a 5,000X maximum win cap, Kalamba Games haven’t done too bad here. It’s a game that may be well-worth checking out if it’s your kind of thing!
