Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

This Roman themed slot brings to life the glory days of the mighty gladiators. These armed combatants were infamous for their violent battles, played out in an arena to entertain the hungry-for-blood audiences.

The backdrop is a blurred fighting amphitheatre, likely the Colosseum, used to host such fights. To either side of the reels are red curtains and the reels are centre stage, putting full focus on the game. Symbols are overlaid onto the background and divided just by the metal bars that outline the reels. It doesn’t help to make them appear clearer without a block colour backdrop, but it does help to retain the darker, more gritty feel without any distractions. 

Animation is minimal, such as with helmets rotating, golden lions silently roaring or axes spinning upon a winning combination being scored. A cinematic soundtrack accompanies gameplay to inject a confident atmosphere of power and tension. Ancient Rome is a popular niche that has been done ample times before, so can Maximum really set itself apart? Perhaps not too much at first blush judging by appearances, but the bonus elements help to make up for that.
