Introduction
Parrot Bay is a punningly named pirate themed online slot produced by RedRake Gaming. This six-reel, ten-row online slot boasts an innovative design and an eyewatering one million paylines.
As you would expect from a pirate themed slot, symbols include cannons, a parrot, a hook-handed pirate captain, galleons, a treasure chest and the essential bottle of rum. Making up the rest of the symbols are the standard playing card symbols.
Free spin bonuses and a cannon mini-game can be entered within standard gameplay, giving players two different objectives to look out for when spinning the reels.
Seasoned online slots players will no doubt be asking if there is a free version to play, and thanks to the Redrake free slots feature, Parrot Bay can be played with fun currency before staking real money on a spin of the reels. There really is no substitute for having a go at the gameplay and running the features before deciding whether or not the game is worth a go with real money.
Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack
The graphics in Parrot Bay are clear enough, if nothing really to write home about. The large reels take up quite a lot of screen real estate, yet the mini game and various other displays are dotted around the screen. This would be a fairly difficult game to keep track of on a smaller screen. Anything smaller than a tablet would make this a fairly uncomfortable play.
Symbols are fairly colourful and animate if they are part of a winning combination. The sepia-tinged background does, however, suck a fair bit of the vibrancy from the screen, leaving an overall brown feeling to proceedings.
In complete contrast, the soundtrack is phenomenal, featuring suitably grand swashbuckling sounds reminiscent of some of the more jaunty parts of the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack from Hans Zimmer. Occasional bits of speech pop out, along with grand sound effects as reels move due to winning symbols being pulled out. This game is best listened to with headphones on, as the soundtrack becomes pretty immersive.
Parrot Bay RTP and Variance
Parrot Bay has a long-term average RTP of 95.13%, which is slightly below average for games of this type. The medium to low volatility provides balanced gameplay with lots of small wins on offer for players, even if the jackpot amounts remain something that players will need to wait for.
How to Play Parrot Bay
1. One of the first things to do when looking at a new game for the first time is to check out the paytable. This is found towards the bottom left-hand corner of the screen in Parrot Bay. The paytable sets out how much is won when winning combinations are revealed on the reels, alongside information about how to access bonus features and some basic game rules.
2. Your bet can be amended by clicking the plus and minus buttons near the top right-hand corner of the screen. Parrot Bay has a fairly simple bet system without any 'per line' or 'coin size' options. The bet you set is the cost per spin.
3. Parrot Bay has a rudimentary autoplay feature where players can select up to 100 spins to run continually. This is found in the middle of the options on the right-hand side of the screen. Autoplay can be stopped by clicking the autoplay button again, which becomes a stop button along with a countdown of spins remaining when autoplay is active.
4. If you are happy with your bet and want to spin the reels once, the circular button at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen will spin the reels a single time.
5. It is essential that you play Parrot Bay responsibly. Try setting a budget for each play session and stopping when it is no longer fun.
Bet Sizes & Paytable Wins
The minimum bet for a spin is 0.20.
The maximum bet for a spin is 25.00, making Parrot Bay suit players with a variety of budgets.
The most valuable symbol in the game is the Pirate Captain, who will return 50x the total bet if six of a kind are revealed on a payline.
Other symbols return between 7.5x the original bet and 0.8x of the original bet if six of a kind are revealed. Remember that there are one million paylines active at all times and wins stack if multiple wins are achieved on a spin.

Parrot Bay Bonus Features
To enter the cannon mini game, players must collect cannons as the reels spin. Each cannon adds a little more to the progress bar under the cannon. Once this is full, the cannon mini game begins. This allows players free shots at winning bonuses.
Winning combinations trigger respins on the main board, where winning symbols disappear and are replaced with more symbols. If you are lucky enough to trigger five respins in a single spin, you enter the bonus feature, with bonus symbols and up to a 20x multiplier available if respins are won during a bonus spin.
This free spin bonus can be retriggered, leading to potentially one of the more lucrative bonus features released recently.
Overall Parrot Bay Review: Our Verdict
This is an average-looking game with above average gameplay. The slightly below average RTP will make players think hard before staking money on a spin.
