Santa’s Wonderland is a vibrant and festive online slot from Pragmatic Play, perfect for the holiday season. It has a cosy Christmas theme, with symbols that feature all sorts of toys and baubles and a backdrop of presents stacked high.

It’s a very traditional look for Christmas-themed slot – but we don’t mind. It’s not every new holiday themed slot’s job to reinvent the wheel like Merry Scary Christmas or Santa Vs Rudolph.  Sometimes, it’s just nice to have old-fashioned Christmas fun.  

Still, the game is a little bit too childish. We get that its aim is to invoke a bit of nostalgia but it would be nice to have more of a mature spin on things.

The Santa’s Wonderland RTP is 96.23% and it has a high variance level. The top prize is 7,500x which is suitable for a highly volatile slot – but a little bit lower than Gems Bonanza, a slot which features very similar gameplay to Santa’s Wonderland.  

How to Win

Santa’s Wonderland is a cluster-based online slot that takes place on an 8x8 grid. To create winning combinaitons, you have to land five or more matching symbols in a group.

Payouts range from .10 coins to 1 coin for five-of-a-kind combinations. If you land between 24 and 64 matching symbols on the reels, you’ll receive a payout ranging from 50 coins for the least generous symbol to 1000 coins for the most generous symbol.

Santa is the wild symbol. He’ll substitute for any symbol to award a win.

Power Ups

On every spin, five differently coloured snowflakes appear in random positions on the reels. When you hit a win using a space that features one of these snowflakes, you’ll activate its corresponding power up:

• Blue Snowflake: The Refresh power-up clears all symbols from the reels except for wilds and adds all new symbols to the screen.
• Purple Snowflake: The Wild Santa power-up one random symbol is selected and all instances of it turn wild.
• Yellow Snowflake: The Blocks power-up adds random blocks of 2x2 symbols to the reels
• Red Snowflake: The Supersize power-up adds a 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 symbol to the screen.
• Green Snowflake: The Lucky Santa power-up adds between 5 and 15 wilds to the reels

Midnight Riches Bonus

As you hit wins during the base game, you collect points to fill the Midnight Riches meter. When you’ve collected 140 points, you’ll trigger the Midnight Riches bonus round.

Beginning at Level 1, this round plays out with all five power-ups guaranteed to be activated once per level. Should you collect enough symbols, you’ll move on to the next Level.

Each Level has a different win multiplier:

• Level 1: 3x multiplier
• Level 2: 6x multiplier
• Level 3: 9x multiplier
• Level 4: 12x multiplier
• Level 5: 15x multiplier

The Santa’s Wonderland slot from Pragmatic Play brings players a wonderful and whimsical gaming experience with plenty of great features on offer. Of course, it’s very similar to Gems Bonanza – but, depending on who you ask, that could be a good thing.

Fun Gameplay for a Christmas-Themed Slot

One of the big issues that slot studios have around the holidays is creating engaging games. They know that these slots are very unlikely to be played all year around but they still need to make them fun and entertaining.

So, the solution seems to be to clone other popular games and disguise them with a Christmas theme. Fat Santa and Big Bad Wolf Christmas Special are examples of this. It’s not the best news for slots players, though, as it would be nice to get a whole new experience.

Pragmatic Play has found a good middle ground. Its Santa’s Wonderland slot has a lot of the same features as Gems Bonanza but there are key differences to ensure that it is not a complete clone – namely in the fact that the bonus multipliers start at 3x and top off at 15x (compared to Gems Bonanza’s 2x and 10x).

Is It Worth A Spin?

If you’re a fan of Gems Bonanza, and other similar slots like Reactoonz and Jammin’ Jars, then Santa’s Wonderland will be right up your alley. It’s got lots of fun features and, while we would prefer if the slot had a bit of more grown-up theme, Santa’s Wonderland provides a fun gaming experience.
