Theme, graphics & soundtrack
There is plenty of wow in this Mad Max meets steampunk adventure. Set in the badlands, this stunning-looking game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future packed with modified motors, high-capability weapons and plenty of cool.
This game looks absolutely badass, with the reels set against a dusty streetscape in an end of the world town in the wilderness; however, it is the steampunk mechanism that seems to power the reels and the sheer attention to detail in the symbols that catches the eye. For example, the card symbol royals feature different meters and obviously belong on the dashboard of the vehicles.
There are four special symbols to look out for - the wild, the hero, the nemesis and the hardcore woman scatter. The inspiration is clearly taken from the Mad Max movies.
The soundtrack also does a great deal of heavy lifting here, as it is highly atmospheric with a brooding drumbeat and some creepy noises that really build the tension.
Apocalypse Quest RTP and variance

Apocalypse Quest bonus features
- Apocalypse respins
The big feature here is the apocalypse respins that can land you one of the four in-game jackpots. Land six or more hero/bonus symbols and the rest of the game symbols will fade while the hero symbols transform into nemesis symbols.
You will start with three respins on the reels where only the hero or nemesis symbols appear. Every hero symbol becomes sticky and transforms into a nemesis. These symbols show a cash value or a jackpot. When a hero lands, all prizes are collected and the respins reset to three.
The feature ends when you fill all 15 spaces and win the grand jackpot worth 1,000x your stake or there are no more respins available.
- Free spins
If this is not enough action, you need to land the bonus symbol on reels one, three and five to trigger nine free spins.
All low-paying symbols are removed and three more bonus symbols trigger three extra spins. Apocalypse respins can also be triggered.
Apocalypse Quest review: our verdict
Head out for the badlands for an adventure you won’t forget. Like Big Time Gaming’s The Final Countdown demo slot, there is plenty of futuristic action and some great bonus features. The apocalypse respins are the pick of the bunch, but the free spins can also be lucrative. Can you be the hero or will you meet your nemesis?
