Introduction
Black Pudding Games is a British company founded in 2018 by a trio of enthusiasts and experts whose plan was to do things differently, hence their tagline "not just another bloody sausage factory". They are very new on the scene, so the number of Black Pudding slots is still small, but they are committed to a programme to develop high-quality, innovative, free slot games as fast as they can without compromising their values. Atomic Reactor goes a lot further than the similarly named Reactoonz slot from Play’N’Go, which in a more limited way was already pushing a few boundaries.
Atomic Reactor has no conventional grid. Instead, it uses what the makers call an orbital reactor engine with the symbols being fired through looped tubes. The bet size ranges from 0.10 to 20. There are 6 regular symbols, which are different colored orbs in Green, Orange, Purple, Red, Yellow and Blue. The special symbol resembles a sun with sunspots and the silhouette of a planet on its face.
Theme, graphics and soundtrack
With its early electro music reminiscent of the pioneering German band Kraftwerk and its matrix style screen, Atomic Reactor is an exciting alternative to the norm. The visuals are crisp, bright and appealing. Watching the symbols speed through the tubes reminds us of watching lottery and bingo machines deliver their results. It’s not spectacular, but its appeal is not just its novelty - it’s a good-looking and sounding, entirely legitimate attempt to reinvent the slot game.
Atomic Reactor RTP and variance
According to the makers, Atomic Reactor has an RTP of 96.19 per cent, which is about average. The variance is medium.
How to play Atomic Reactor
- Atomic Reactor is a 3-reel slot redesigned using the company’s trademark Orbital Reactor mechanism in which all the symbol wins are referenced to the 6-symbol positions on the Orbital Paypath.
- The object of the game is to match 3 or more symbols on any adjacent positions on the Orbital Paypath. Winning combinations and payouts are detailed in the Paytable.
- Click the Spin button or press the Space Bar to start playing.
- The running balance is displayed in the bottom left corner.
- Always play responsibly at a level where you feel comfortable, and stop playing when it stops being fun.

Atomic Reactor bonus features
Orbital Reactor Mechanism
Every win formed by symbols other than the game’s bonus symbol will trigger the Orbital Reactor cascade feature. After the win is paid, all the symbols that are part of the winning combinations will be replaced by new selections. This will make it possible for new wins to appear on the Orbital Paypath.
Every time symbols are replaced in a cascade, the win multiplier meter will advance by one step and will be applied to any new win that results from that cascade. The maximum win multiplier in the base game is 20x, and in the free spins feature, it is 40x. Chain reactions triggered by this feature will continue until no new win is activated.
Twin Win Booster Bonus Feature
Two simultaneous 3x wins with symbols other than the bonus symbol occurring at any time during a game will trigger the twin win booster bonus feature. A special spin mode triggers the rapid highlighting of each symbol on the Orbital Paypath in a looping cycle. The player may halt the cycle at any time by clicking the main play button, which transforms into a temporary stop button during the feature. The cycle automatically stops after a fixed time if it has not been manually interrupted. The symbol that is highlighted when the cycle ends is cloned to all positions on the Orbital Paypath, and the related 6x win will substitute for the two 3x wins that triggered the feature.
Free Spins Bonus Feature
Any win that contains 4 or more bonus symbols will trigger the free spins feature. When you progress from the base game into the free spins feature, the Atomic Reactor switches into the wheel of fortune mode. The player is given a single spin of the wheel to win 5, 10, 15 or 30 free spins. All values on the base game win multiplier meter are doubled in the free spins round. Free spins can be retriggered without limit. Retriggers will award the same number of free spins originally won on entry from the base game.
Atomic Reactor review: Our verdict
Atomic Reactor is a refreshing departure, retaining the matching combination principle but using it in an entirely novel setting. It works well, with plenty of satisfying extras, a good RTP and a high potential payout. It's not for purists, but it's well worth a look for everyone else.

What does RTP actually mean?
RTP means Return to Player. The calculation gives an idea of the average percentage a player might expect to win back. This average is based on calculations that take into account wins of all possible levels, which means the overall extent of player losses will always outweigh any substantial wins.
What does variance mean?
Variance is a term originally used in poker and usefully applied to slots as an indication of the frequency and size of payouts. High-variance games will give big rewards but rarely, while low-variance games pay small and often.
