Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino
Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino LA review
Delta Downs is an American thoroughbred and quarter-horse racetrack with a casino and hotel. It is owned and operated by Boyd Gaming and is located near Vinton, Louisiana, which is part of the Lake Charles Metropolitan Statistical Area. For a town with just 3,000 inhabitants, it is surprising that the Vinton casino scene is so vibrant - there are about a dozen establishments of various sizes. Amongst the truck stop and bar casinos, you will find Delta Downs. Not least because of its importance in the racing calendar, it is one of the town’s major attractions. Technically a racino, it has a gaming floor of 48,000 square feet and is open every day except for brief closures over Easter and Christmas. There is a split age limit: to play the slots you need to be at least 21, but you can bet on the horses from the age of 18.
Casino games
In accordance with state law, there are no live table games at Delta Downs; however, there is sportsbook betting at Fanduel Sportsbook located on the casino floor, where you can bet on all major sports and leagues including football, baseball, basketball and soccer.
Slots
To compensate for the lack of live games, Delta Downs has put together a very impressive collection of over 1,600 slots, including a number of progressive jackpots. There are games at all denomination levels to suit every budget, with many of the most popular slot machines USA jurisdictions are authorized to offer. Just some of the names you will recognize are Gifts From the Gods, Buffalo Stampede, Scarab, and Dragon’s Inferno.
History
The racetrack at Delta Downs opened in September 1973 as a facility to run quarter horses, with the later addition of thoroughbred race meetings. In the 1990s it was sold for $10m to a developer who quickly sold it on to Boyd Gaming for $100m when the law changed to allow the use of slot machines. A further $120m was spent on upgrading the venue to turn it into the major resort it is today.
Features and amenities
Apart from the six-furlong track and the casino, there is a large luxury hotel, aquatic and fitness centers, restaurants, bars, entertainment, and a gift shop.
Dining
There are two fine-dining restaurants. The Rosewater Grill & Tavern serves steaks, seafood and Creole cuisine in a relaxed environment with a trackside view of live racing, while The Clubhouse is a genuine southern steakhouse serving food with all the trimmings. The more casual option is the Gator Grill, which is open 24 hours a day.
Entertainment
There is a full calendar of entertainment featuring great live bands, comedians, cabaret, magicians, and more.
Accommodation
The Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino hotel is a luxury establishment with 370 rooms including 20 suites. There are six different room types and all have wireless internet access and 40” flatscreen TVs.
Loyalty program
Boyd Gaming’s B Connected program has four levels of membership. The more points you earn, the greater your access to some very special offers, which is in addition to the redeemable value of your points. Membership gives you the chance to win points you can use at 27 locations across the USA.
