Ojibwa Casino Baraga MI Review

Gambling was legalized in Michigan in the 1980s. There are now 26 land-based casinos in the state, mostly owned and operated by Native American tribal companies. This Baraga casino is one of them, in the possession of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. It has a 17,000-square-foot gaming floor, and you’ll find it at 16449 Michigan Avenue, Baraga, close to L’Anse Bay, Lake Superior. The resort is open for breakfast lunch and dinner, and the gaming floor is open from 7.00 am every day until 2.30 am.

Casino Games

The casino floor is medium-sized, but there is nevertheless a good range of slot machines and table games, and while there is no dedicated poker room there are plenty of poker games to be found.

Slots

If like many gamers you’re used to experimenting with free slots online before you start betting money, then it’s quite likely that some of the games here will already be familiar to you, like Spartacus Gladiator of Rome, Laser Lock Ice Sapphire, Queen of the Wild II and Colossal Wizards.

The range is good so fans of tradition will be as satisfied as those who are interested in the newest technological and gameplay developments. There are around 300 slots in all, as well as electronic versions of poker and other table games.

Table Games

There are just eight tables for live games, where you’ll come across a variety of classic favorites like Blackjack, Roulette and Craps as well as several types of poker, including Let it Ride, No Limit Hold’em and Fortune Pai Gow. There is no sports betting at Ojibwa.

History

The Ojibwa Casino Resort Baraga opened in 1985 as the Pressbox Bar and Bowling Alley. In the early days, it had little more than a few blackjack tables, but it expanded steadily to reach its current size, helped by a major renovation in 2019 which included a new table games pit, a new bar with tabletop games, the new rewards club and cage and a revamped Lucky 7s restaurant. With recent changes in Michigan gambling laws, it’s possible that Ojibwa might introduce sports betting and online gambling.

Features and Amenities

In addition to the good-sized casino, there is a small hotel, live entertainment, two places to eat and two bars. Its offer is modest, but what it does provide is of a very high quality, so you will feel well looked after.

Dining

The two restaurants are Press Box Bar & Grill, for burgers, sandwiches, subs and fried chicken, and Lucky 7s for a wider American menu.

Entertainment

There are frequent live performances from local talent, which can round off your day nicely or give you a break before returning to the casino floor to play on into the early hours.

Accommodation

The Ojibwa Casino Baraga hotel is a small but well-appointed hotel with 40 rooms, including two jacuzzi suites. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, and there is an indoor pool with whirlpool and sauna available for the use of guests. You can also enjoy the distraction of the bowling lanes. Alternatively, there is an RV park on-site.

Loyalty Program

The Rewards Club is free to join and lets you earn points from both slots and table games which you can redeem as free play credit as well as discounts in the restaurants and many other special offers.
