Riverwalk Casino Hotel MS Review

Mississippi is home to just 36 casinos, and most of them are clustered near Biloxi on the Gulf Coast. This Vicksburg casino is part of a smaller cluster of five casinos on the western edge of the state in the Lower River Region. In scale, it is a relatively small casino hotel resort, but it offers a very satisfying range of entertainment and facilities with a particularly extensive gaming offer. It’s located at 1046 Warrenton Road, Vicksburg, off US-61 in a fantastic setting overlooking the Mississippi River. It is owned by Churchill Downs, Inc, a NASDAQ-listed company. The minimum age for gambling is 21 and the casino is open every day of the year except for the Easter and Christmas holidays. The total floor space devoted to slots and table games is 25,000 square feet.

Casino Games

For a comparatively modest space, Riverwalk Casino Hotel has a surprisingly varied choice of games. Most of the floor is devoted to slots, but Churchill Downs has ensured plenty of room for a broad offer of live games.

Slots

With well over 600 slot machines, you’ll find many of the best online slots USA casinos have to offer, and many of the familiar classics are included alongside some of the most innovative modern creations. There are progressives, video poker games and high-limit slots. Among the best-known names are Lazer Lock Ice Sapphire, Colossal Wizards, Quick Hit Slots and Mr. Cashman.

Table Games

There are four poker tables hosting standard games and tournaments in-game variants including Let it Ride, No Limit Holdem, Fortune Pai Gow and Sharp Shooter. There are a further 17 tables offering several types of blackjack, roulette, dice games like craps and hazards, several lottery games and virtual racing. Sports betting is also available, with the chance to bet on football, baseball, basketball and many more sports.

History

Riverwalk Casino Hotel opened in October 2008 and was acquired by Churchill Downs, Inc. for $141 million four years later. The current owner was incorporated back in 1928 as the operating company for the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky, and it has grown through an ambitious program of acquisition and expansion to be a major force it is today.

Features and Amenities

There is a modest luxury hotel, an event center, a gift shop and two restaurants on site. Riverwalk also runs a six-week Casino Dealer School for those who are interested in a career in the industry.

The main dining attraction is Smiley’s, which is open seven days a week from 7 am to 10 pm weekdays and closes at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. There’s a great breakfast selection and a lunch and dinner menu with burgers, wings, salads, fried catfish and much more. Alternatively, you can try the Magnolia Hill Buffet.

Entertainment

Although there is no live entertainment at the venue, there’s no shortage of great music venues in Vicksburg. After all, the Mississippi Delta is the birthplace of the Blues.
