Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack

The graphics are a little bland. Considering the opportunity to introduce some really sparkling HD crystal here, it looks like it’s been repurposed from a 90s adventure game. In fact, the whole narrative is slightly confusing. But perhaps that’s your thing.

The only real saving grace is the Wild Diamond, which is sparkling and has more depth than all of the other symbols and looks like it’s been transported from another game entirely.

The soundtrack is a sub-Wild West, minimal plonky loop with some dripping sounds and explosions thrown in. It doesn’t really fit well with the Crystal theme at all. We would have liked something chilled and ethereal to fit the backdrop. So in this case, we definitely recommend that you supplement with your own soundtrack.

How to Play Cascading Cave

1. First, check out the rules and paytable. They’re easy to miss! There’s a small brown wood menu button with INFO in yellow, on the bottom left of the screen. If you click or tap this, it will let you view the paylines, game info and paytable.

2. To the right of the INFO button, you can view the number of lines and adjust your bet amount. Click or tap the + and - buttons under TOTAL BET to adjust your bet amount from 1 to 500.

3. You can play in autoplay mode by clicking AUTOPLAY to the right of the bottom panel of the screen. You can choose 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 autospins, or you can select UNTIL FEATURE, which will place the game into AUTOPLAY mode until you manage to trigger one of the features or bonus games.

Cascading Reels

So how this works is, if you gain a win, before the next spin the symbols that combined to create that win will fall and be replaced by new ones. So you get another chance at a win. This can keep on going until the new symbols fail to create a winning combination.

Wild Diamond

This game’s wild symbol is a diamond and it can substitute for any other symbol in the game apart from the scatter symbol, which is a bundle of dynamite.

Diamond Drop

If you manage to land two or three scatter symbols anywhere on the reels then you’ll trigger this bonus game. So, two scatter symbols will boost two reels, and three will kickstart three reels. The diamonds hovering above these reels show numbers indicating how many multiplier wilds will cascade down onto each reel following a win. Up to three wild symbols can cascade down. Each has a multiplier that is either 2x, 3x or 5x in value, and so they will multiply any winning combination by this amount.

Our Verdict

Cascading Cave is an oddity in that it joins a genre of slots with bonus games but it can’t match them in graphics or soundtrack. The cascading reels bonus feature really deserved a bit more effort being put into the rest of the game.

As far as gameplay goes, it’s solid, but variable. During the bonus rounds, getting three scatter symbols is infinitely more valuable than two, but it doesn’t happen often enough to be relied upon. For a high volatility game, it could also really do with some free spins offered to offset the draining of your funds as you wait for that next feature to land.
