Given its setting inside a pound for abandoned dogs, Dog Pound Dollars could easily have been downbeat. Rival Gaming thankfully chose to go down the cartoon route instead, so we have a quirky and upbeat slot reminiscent of early Disney films like Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians. With the dogs at the heart of the show, symbol design had to be top-notch.

All the dog symbols are wonderfully quirky. Some are more adorable than others, especially the puppy cowering on the scatter symbol, perhaps in fear of the dog catcher.

The reels are otherwise incredibly simple, which is a slight letdown. The only thing we have by way of setting is a murky cityscape, but it’s hardly visible because the grid is so large and the background is mostly plunged in shadow. A more detailed setting would have helped with immersion, but we can’t really condemn Rival Gaming for putting cute canines front and centre!
