Introduction

Playtech doesn’t release as many games as some of the bigger, better-known software providers like NetEnt and Big Time Gaming - but that doesn’t mean that their games aren’t worth checking out, and one of their latest releases - Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic - does a great job of showcasing what the game developer is capable of when they really put their minds to it.

Format and Betting Options

This 5-reel, 3-row video slot has 10 fixed paylines and, like most of the game developer’s slots, offers a huge array of betting options, with the maximum stake set at a whopping 500 credits! Low-rollers will be pleased to learn that the minimum bet is just 0.10 credits too - so there’s something for everyone!

Graphics and Theme

Unfortunately, graphics-wise, the software provider has left quite a lot to be desired - and the game, we dare say, actually looks a bit bland. The reels are set on a backdrop that looks to be an old library - but it’s not overly impressive, and there isn’t any main character present on the reels, bar a couple of statues found in the bottom hand corners of the screen.

The symbols themselves are also quite bland, with the lower-paying icons represented by pretty basic-looking potion vials. There’s a couple of characters present on the reels, but even here, we can’t help but feel as though Playtech has fallen a little short of their usual standards; Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic, so far, is underwhelming, at best.

Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic’s RTP and Volatility

With an RTP of 96.09%, Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic comes in at around the industry-average in terms of return to player percentages. We don’t feel as though the game’s RTP is too bad - especially when you consider the maximum win is 5,000X your stake.

OK, so it’s not going to produce life-changing wins - and it’s no competition for some of the big-win monsters we’ve seen in the last year like Dead or Alive II and Jammin’ Jars. However, it’s still a fairly decent maximum win, though unlocking that much potential is unlikely to ever actually come to fruition!

When it comes to volatility, Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic is definitely on the medium side of things - and this means you can expect to see fairly frequent base-game wins, with it being quite rare to see wins below your total stake.

Bonus Features

Looking at the reels while playing Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic, you’ll notice that there are a number of different Sorcerers present. Each of them activates a special reel modifier, complimented with a re-spin.

  • Nature Sorcerer: The Nature Sorcerer only appears on the first reel; when he lands in view, he will transform one random higher-paying symbol into a wild symbol. All instances of the higher-paying symbol will transform into wilds, so if you have enough of them on the screen you can end up forming wild-lines and hitting decent wins!
  • Fire Sorcerer: Appearing only on the second reel, the Fire Sorcerer awards you with one free re-spin. He will then apply a multiplier against any wins formed during this re-spin - and it’s possible for the re-spin to reach as high as 10X, which - if the symbols line up correctly - can result in a pretty healthy-sized win!
  • Wind Sorcerer: The Wind Sorcerer appears only on the third reel, and when he lands in view, he too will award you with one free re-spin. However, on this re-spin, the number of paylines active in the game is doubled - so, instead of 10 paylines, the following spin will be played out with 20 active paylines, increasing your chances of forming a win.
  • Water Sorcerer: The Water Sorcerer only appears on the 4th reel, and when he shows up, he will award you with one free re-spin. Now, for this re-spin, one of the lower-paying Potion Vial symbols is removed from the reels - so there’s a slightly better chance of forming a win, especially with one of the premium symbols.
  • Arcane Sorcerer: The final sorcerer - the Arcane Sorcerer - appears only on reel 5. When he lands in view, he will award you with one free re-spin. This re-spin then chooses one of the other Sorcerers at random, increasing their power - so, for example, if the Water Sorcerer was chosen, two of the lower-paying symbols could be removed from the reels, instead of one.

Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic Review

Playtech tend to get quite a lot of “stick” for their slots; a lot of players feel as though the game developer simply hasn’t been able to keep up with the times. We certainly can’t remember when one of their releases attracted the attention as we’ve seen from many games released in the last few years; of course, they tend to focus more on their back-end software, which powers some of the biggest sports betting and casino sites in the world.

We don’t like the fact that there isn’t a proper bonus round - all of the bonuses and features are delivered in the form of re-spins and in-game reel modifiers, and many of them are pretty underwhelming, often producing no (or a very small) win.

Still, if you’re bored and want to check out something a bit new, Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic can be quite fun to play - and you can win up to 5,000X your stake while playing - although we’re not entirely sure how!

Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic Slot FAQs

What are the betting limits in Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic?

One thing Playtech is well-known for is their betting size options; Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic is no different, and you’ll find yourself able to wager from as little as 0.10 credits per spin, and as many as 500! This ensures all players should be able to find a stake size they’re comfortable with.

How do I trigger the Sorcerer Re-spins?

In Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic, each reel has one special sorcerer that, essentially, acts as the game’s bonus symbol. Simply landing any Sorcerer in view will trigger their specific reel modifier, and it is possible to land more than one at once, which means their ‘powers’ are combined for the subsequent re-spin. This is where the game’s real money is found.

How much can I win playing Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic?

On paper, the maximum win you’ll be able to capture while playing Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic is 5,000X. However, as with any video slot, this is a maximum win - and it’s very unlikely we’ll actually see players coming anywhere close to hitting this type of win on the slot! If you ask us, you’ll be hard-pressed to see anything more than 2-300X while playing Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic.

What is the RTP of Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic?

The RTP of Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic is, actually, one of the few things the slot does have going for it - and we’re pleased to see that Playtech has opted to keep the game’s RTP above the industry-standard of 96%. Currently, Sorcerer’s Guild of Magic has an RTP of 96.09%, so if you do decide to play the game for yourself, you can expect a fairly decent amount of play-time, provided you’re playing at a sensible stake!
