How to Win

This is a cluster-based slot where winning combinations are made by landing five or more matching symbols in a group. The fire symbol is the most generous in the game, which pays out the grand prize of 2000x if you land 20 or more in a group on the board. Cascades also occur after each payout, causing winning symbols to disappear and new symbols to fall into their places.

Above the set of reels, you’ll notice that the knight is engaged in a battle with one of several opponents. Every time you hit a winning combination, a portion of the opponent’s health is depleted. If a win doesn’t occur, the enemy will regain some health.

When the opponent’s health meter reaches 0, then the knight moves on to the next enemy. There are 7 enemies in each of the 8 worlds. As you move through each world, the featured bonus will change.  

Wild Meter

As your knight battles it out with the various enemies, there is a Wild Meter situated between them. This is charged by the number of symbols involved in your winning combinations, and a certain number of wilds will be added to the reels:

• 16 to 31 symbols: 3 wilds added
• 32 to 54 symbols: 5 wilds added
• 55+ symbols: 10 wilds added

World Features

As you progress through each world, a different feature will be available to trigger one you hit a certain level. Each of these bonuses offers additional ways for you to land wins, on top of the Wild Meter bonus.

• Paint Bucket: all symbols of 1 colour can transform into a higher-paying symbol. It can be triggered once you reach Level 3 of the Deep Sea World.
• Thunderbol: a thunderbolt strikes the game’s four corners and turns all symbols in its path into the same. You can trigger this bonus from Level 2 of Mechanica.
• Super Nova: a 4x4 block of symbols is destroyed. This is available from Level 3 of the Jungle World.
• Wild Tornado: Symbols are shuffled into new positions on the reels. This is available from Level 4 of the Lavadrome World
• Giant Bomb: all but two colours of symbols are removed from the reels. You can land this bonus from Level 2 of the Floating Islands World.
• Magic Flask: up to 10 symbols will transform into the same matching symbol. This can be triggered in Level 3 onwards in the Enchanted Forest.
• Flaming Dynamite: between 3 and 5 reels are completely cleared. This is available from Level 4 of Canyonlands.
• Hot Lava Ball: Up to 9 symbols can be destroyed, and it can occur multiple times. It is available from available from Level 2 of Polaris.

Overall Review

Combat Masters from Skywind is such an interesting online slot, with a very fun and unique format that bridges the gap between social gaming and online slots. It’s great how Skywind managed to keep all of the traditional aspects of a cluster slot game and combine it with a gamified interface that allows players to progress through different worlds and earn new bonuses as they go.

The main issue with this online slot is that there doesn’t seem to be very much difference in terms of the World features. Most of them revolve around destroying symbols. It would really ramp up the excitement if there maybe another wild feature or a respin feature. Still, with the bonuses that the game does have, Combat Masters has an interesting Reactoonz type of gameplay to it – which is never a bad thing.
