As Skywind’s first Megaways slot game, we were expecting something a little bit more creative in terms of themes. Ancient Egyptian slots are a dime a dozen nowadays, so it’s pretty disappointing that Skywind hasn’t come up with something more unique. However, it’s likely that the design team wanted to go with something classic if the format of the game was going to be something totally new.

That being said, Book of Gems Megaways looks fine. The graphics are vibrant and the symbols depict all sorts of items you’d associate with Ancient Egyptian culture. There’s nothing super special about it, but it’s not a bad-looking slot.

How to Play

The most generous symbol in the game is the explorer, who pays out 200x for a 5-of-a-kind combination. The book is the wild symbol, which substitutes for all other symbols except the ones that expand. It is also the scatter, which triggers the free spins round.

Free Spins and Bonuses

When you land three scatters on the reels, you’ll trigger the free spins round. Before the bonus begins, one random symbol is selected to be the expanding symbol.

Once you’re in the free spins round, whenever three of the specially-selected symbols appear on the reels, they will expand. Then, all instances of that symbol will pay out scatter prizes – so, even if one stack doesn’t appear on an adjacent reel, it will still pay out.

Book of Gems Megaways doesn’t really have a lot going for it, as it has a very common theme, far lower-than-average winning ways than other Megaways games and no base game features. However, the game’s one redeeming feature is a really big one.

It’s likely that Skywind had to scale back other parts of the gameplay in order to be able to include this feature. So, taking that into consideration makes the rest of the slot’s downfalls forgivable.

This means that Book of Gems Megaways is a game geared more towards players with classic gaming tastes. It’s definitely doesn’t come equipped with all of the bells and whistles that we’re used to seeing in Megaways games but, there is plenty of excitement to be experienced if you manage to trigger the free spins bonus.
