Introduction
Nolimit City have achieved large-scale success in the past year and they’re back with another Western American-inspired game called Buffalo Hunter. The slot takes players to the great plains where Native American animals roam freely, and like many of the game developer’s recent releases the slot offers impeccable graphics, big win-potential and some exciting bonus action. In this Buffalo Hunter slot review, we’re going to be taking a look at everything the slot has to offer.
Format and RTP
Buffalo Hunter can be played from as little as .20 coins per spin, and you’ll find yourself able to stake as much as 100 coins. The game’s normal RTP is fixed in place at 96.01%, although this increases to 96.34% if you choose to use the “Bonus Buy” option. It is also a very high volatility slots game.
The game is set around a 5-reel, 4-row format, and unlike some of Nolimit City’s other releases this year, Buffalo Hunter uses a payline structure; you’ll find 40 paylines in play here, and these are “fixed”, meaning you cannot adjust the number of paylines in play.
There’s a variety of game options available to you as a player, and you’ll be able to take advantage of the game’s autoplay feature where you can set up to 100 spins to play out automatically. (Players outside the UK can set up to 1,000 spins to play out using autoplay.) There’s also a “quick spin” feature which allows you to slam stop the reels and decrease the amount of time it takes between every spin. As always, detailed game rules are available, and there’s also a dynamic paytable which means you can view the game’s payouts in-line with the current stake you’re playing at.
Buffalo Hunter’s Symbols And Payouts
Like the vast majority of Nolimit City’s games, Buffalo Hunter contains a range of both lower-paying and higher-paying symbols. The lower-paying symbols are all depicted through playing card values, and you’ll find them including 10, J, Q, K and A. There are also 5 higher-paying symbols, all of which are theme-specific and look fantastic against the game’s stunning backdrop. These higher-paying symbols include various animals including Pronghorns, Wolves, Cougars, Eagles, and the Buffalo; the latter of which is - of course - the slot’s highest-paying symbol.
The lower-paying symbols aren’t worth much, though the higher-paying ones offer more potential. They pay between 6.25-50X your stake if you manage to line up a 5-of-a-kind combo.
Aside from the regular paying symbols, Buffalo Hunter also has a Dream Catcher on the reels. This acts as the game’s wild symbol, and it substitutes for any of the paying symbols to help you form wins. However, the wild doesn’t have its own payouts, instead, mirroring those of the Buffalo - this means a 5-of-a-kind combo of the wild would pay 50X which is quite a bit less than some players may expect to see!
Buffalo Hunter Bonus Features
Like we see in one of Nolimit City’s most recent (and successful) releases - Deadwood - there are a few different bonuses available in Buffalo Hunter, with the type of bonus you get determined by a couple of different factors. We’ll get into those shortly.
Firstly, let’s look at the Mystery Symbols:
Mystery Symbols can be found in both the base-game and all free-spins rounds, and, as with most other games, when any of these mystery symbols land in view all instances of the symbol will then transform into one identical symbol. It’s not a “feature”, per-se, but it’s a nice little game addition and ensures there’s something a little bit extra to look out for in the base-game.
The main three bonuses are triggered by landing three or more of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. Landing three or four scatter symbols will trigger the general free-spins bonus, awarding 8 and 10 free-spins respectively. You’ll get to choose between the Buffalo Horde or Prairie Multiplier bonuses. If you manage to land five scatter symbols you’ll trigger the bonus with the highest potential - the Stampede Super Bonus. Below, we’ll look at all three bonuses.
Buffalo Horde Free Spins
The Buffalo Horde free spins is the lowest variance of the two main bonuses, although we should point out that compared against most slots, it’s still a volatile bonus round. If you choose this feature you’ll see that some of the Buffalo symbols have a special glowing ring around them on the reels. When these symbols land they will add to a meter on the left-hand-side of the reels. When this meter is completely filled - there’s one segment for each of the higher-paying animal symbols - all instances of that animal are then transformed into Buffalos for the duration of the bonus round.
You also get 2 additional free-spins each time this happens, so it’s a very similar mechanic to what we’ve seen in other popular slots like Thunderkick’s Pink Elephants and NetEnt’s Gorilla Kingdom.
Prairie Multiplier Free Spins
If you opt to choose the Prairie Multiplier free-spins you’ll enter into a slightly more volatile bonus round; it’s pretty similar to the Buffalo Horde feature, except that the higher-paying animal symbols now have multipliers attached to them. As you collect the glowing rings and transform animals into Buffalos you’ll notice that multipliers increase by 1 up to a maximum of 5 for the remaining animal symbols. It’s a great bit of creativity on Nolimit City’s party and offers players something a bit different.
Stampede Super Bonus
If you’re lucky enough to land five of the scatter symbols during the base game you’ll trigger the Stampede Super Bonus. This is, essentially, a combination of both of the two previous bonuses; so, like the Buffalo Horde free-spins, you’ll be aiming to transform the higher-paying animal symbols one-by-one into Buffalo symbols, but there’s also multipliers attached - and if you manage to fill up the meter, change all symbols into Buffalos and reach the 5X multiplier - landing a full screen of the Buffalo awards a payout worth a whopping 10,000X your stake per spin!
Our Verdict Of Buffalo Hunter
Nolimit City are on a definite “roll” at the moment, and they’re releasing games which are proving themselves to be incredibly popular with players from all corners of the world. Buffalo Hunter looks set to offer the same big win-potential we’ve seen offered in a number of their games and it’s very likely that it’ll be a success, given that it offers a staggering 10,000X stake win-potential on every spin during the Super Stampede Bonus!
While the game is very volatile the base-game can churn out some decent hits too, and we think it’s cool that Nolimit City have decided to add Mystery Symbols into the mix as it does make the base-game a little more entertaining. On the whole we can’t fault Buffalo Hunter, and it’s well-suited to anyone looking for a volatile game that really can pay!
