Introduction
This is the 40-payline version of Burning Ice from Playsoft. It is in the same series as Burning Ice and Burning Ice 10 and is a fruit-themed slot with the addition of traditional bells, red 7s and four-leaf clovers for luck.
Burning Ice 40 Theme and Storyline
This Burning Ice slot is set on a background of green clover and gives the vague idea of being an Irish-inspired slot. This is despite the fact that the only real Irish influence seems to be the clover and the green color scheme. We’re not sure what fruit has to do with clover or how either of these connect with Burning Ice, but you simply may not care if you like a 40-payline slot with four rows and five columns and a really fruity theme. If this isn’t for you, you may want to take a look at Smartsoft's Aztec slot instead.

Burning Ice 40 RTP and Variance
This game has an RTP of 97.02 per cent, which is very high when you consider that the average is just 96 per cent. It plays like a medium variance game.
How to Play Burning Ice 40
There are many familiar features shared by Smartsoft free play slots, so you may recognise the user interface when you log onto the Burning Ice 40 slot. If you haven’t encountered this maker before, however, there is no need to worry - especially once you’ve read the following list of handy hints to help you play the game.
- Use the plus and minus symbols on either side of the control bar to choose your stake. Options start at 0.40 per spin and go up to 80.00.
- Click on the central octagon to start the spinning action, and press it again if you want the reels to come to a halt faster than they normally would.
- Click on the Autoplay option to allow the game to play automatically. Choose how many spins you want the slot to make without intervention and what criteria you want it to meet to make it stop and give you control again. This is normally when it plays the maximum number of spins you have selected or if you win or lose a pre-set amount.
- Click on the three-line menu tab to access the settings menu. This is where you will find the gear symbol link to the sound settings and the question mark link to the paytable. There are also game statistics to view, including top wins and current wins.
Burning Ice 40 Bet Sizes & Paytable Wins
Bet from 0.40 to 80.00 on this game and remember that the amount you stake will be reflected in the prizes on offer in the paytable. If you bet the maximum amount, here is what you could win for five-of-a-kind combinations:
Dollar scatters - 8,000.00
Red 7s - 2,000.00
Grapes and watermelons - 600.00
Golden bells - 400.00
Lemons and cherries - 200.00
Oranges and plums - 200.00
Burning Ice 40 Bonus Features
The four-leaf clover is the wild of the game and appears on the second, third and fourth reels. It can substitute for any symbol on the same reel it lands on, apart from the dollar sign. The wild symbols can appear stacked on reels three, four and five, and you can have more than 40 of these wild icons on the screen at any one time.
The dollar scatter will pay out for a minimum of three symbols anywhere on the reels. The game also has a respin bonus after a winning spin. The game will respin and the columns that were part of the reel do not move. This is not a traditional free spins round, but it can give your prize pot a healthy boost if new wins roll in.
The final bonus in the game is a risk-type gamble game. This is a typical card-based game that allows you to choose between red and black. Guess correctly and your win will be doubled. Make the wrong choice, however, and you will lose it all.
Burning Ice 40 Review
This game offers a new spin on a traditional fruit theme, although the design isn’t actually that well thought-out or cohesive. The graphics aren’t bad at all, but the theme isn’t carried through well, and the name, game design, and contents of the reels seem to have little connection with each other. Nevertheless, traditionalists may like the fruity feel of the slot, although they will have to accept that a few bonus features have been added. These do add to the entertainment value of the game, but you will have to decide if they are enough to make you forgo more sophisticated and technologically advanced slots in favor of this Smartsoft offering.
The frozen columns are a nice feature, as are the post-win respins, although we would still like to have seen the inclusion of more traditional free spins, along with a bonus game and perhaps a multiplier or six. In general, Burning Ice 40 is a pretty mediocre offering that isn’t a bad game but may struggle to offer enough compared to other online slots. It does have a really good RTP, however, so that may be reason enough for some people to play it.
