Theme, graphics and soundtrack

It all looks rather twee, and certainly the bell with wings and the impossibly cute fox support this view; however, it is nicely shaded, with a cool blue forest glade behind brightly colored icons. The combined betting machinery and spin button are unnecessarily complicated and at first sight there is no obvious spin button. If in doubt, just click the biggest section and the reels will start spinning. The animation of the win lines is sharp and clear and the whole game has a fluidity of movement that makes it very watchable. There is no music to speak of, just a sort of humming, echoing note. It is not clear what this is meant to be, but you can always switch it off.

How to play Magic Garden

1. The complex structure to the right of the reels enables you to increase and decrease the bet level.
2. Click the irregular-shaped sealed box to the left of the credit balance meter to open the autoplay menu. This gives you a choice of automatic spins from ten to infinity, or continuous until you stop autoplay mode. The button that appears above the box tells you how many autospins are remaining. Press the button again to enter the menu and exit autoplay.
3. In the autoplay menu, you can set the game to spin automatically until a win reaches or exceeds a specified figure, set a loss limit, and stop when you win a free spin or a big win.
4. The balance meter with the wallet symbol to the bottom left of the screen displays your current balance. This is updated after each spin.
5. Click the button with the pink chevron or press the space bar to start playing at the current total bet level.
6. The wild (clover) substitutes for all the regular symbols. There are more than 40 possible wild symbols to boost your winnings. Wilds can be stacked on reels two, three and four.
7. Three scatter symbols will win one coin. These can stack on reels one, three and five.
8. Scatter wins are added to the payline wins. Only the highest payline and/or scatter win will be paid.
9. The Smartsoft symbol appears at random on the fifth reel and transforms other regular symbols into wilds.

Risk game

After each win, the risk game option appears. Press the risk button to start the feature, in which you are challenged to select a red card or a black card to match the color the game will reveal. If your choice matches the color that is revealed, the stake is doubled. If you are incorrect, you lose the stake and the feature ends. This game is nothing to write home about. With a few decent extras, a fairly low payout and graphics that won’t appeal to all, it passes muster but only just. It can be mildly diverting for a while.
