Introduction
Skywind have taken us back with Juicy Stacks - right back to the early days of slots when plain fruit machines were pretty much all that were available. The five reels are depicted with bold simplicity, and other than the scatter and wild, there are no excessively finnicky bonus features across these 40 paylines to try and twist your head around. A true classic that shows you don’t need to be fancy to be fun.
Theme, Graphics & Soundtrack
You’ve seen one fruit machine, you’ve seen them all, right? Well, not exactly. There’s still lots of room for variation. Even having five reels instead of three livens things up from the most traditional format. Still, Juicy Stacks isn’t the slot you go to if you want something highly innovative. It’s the kind of slot you play when you want the comfort of nostalgia. The blue background is unremarkable, and the reels are a plain white that makes the symbols stand out all the more. Those symbols are bold in their simplicity with a real retro feel, though they become a bit livelier after winning spins. The beeps and clicks of the sound effects also recall the most classic of fruit machines, immersing you in those halcyon days before slots became so complicated.
Juicy Stacks RTP and Variance
One reason for trying out our Skywind slot demos before giving any real money version a try is to get a feel for how the game works without having to risk any cash. Another helpful way to set realistic expectations is to take a look at the RTP and variance figures, which can be helpful guidelines (though not guarantees) of average returns. The 95.63% RTP of Juicy Stacks is a little below other modern slots, but not by much, whilst the high variance will probably appeal more to the high rollers than the cautious newcomers. It means a greater risk, though also greater possible rewards.
How to Play Juicy Stacks
As you’d expect from a classic fruit machine, the layout is pretty simple:
- Let’s start on the left. All the buttons you need are under the reels, and the first is info. The info box that appears has two pages, one for the paytable and one for paylines, but there’s also a link to the “How to Play” page.
- Next to the info button is a display for your current total bet with plus or minus symbols to adjust it. Next to that is the display for your coin bet.
- In the middle is the space where any wins will be displayed. A single win limit is when you decide on the amount that would allow you to walk away happy. It’s a good idea, just like a loss limit to stop you chasing losses.
- Budgeting and limits are also helped by keeping an eye on your total balance, down at the very bottom left corner of the screen. It’s all part of responsible gambling.
- The bottom right corner is where you’ll find the volume control. You can slide the level up and down as well as muting it.
- Back to the buttons directly under the reels. Turbo is fairly self-explanatory - it makes everything go faster. That does mean fewer animations and the like during spins.
- When it comes to spinning, you have two options. You can press the spin button and watch the reels turn once or click the autoplay button. This will offer between 10 and 99 automatic spins, though you can’t include your win and loss limits as stopping points.
- Don’t forget to take regular breaks and, however you play, make sure you do it responsibly.
When the fun stops, stop.
Bet & Win Sizes
The total bet starts at a 0.40 minimum and can be increased to as much as a 120.00 maximum. That’s not a bad range, though some may wish it went higher. Coin bet is between 0.01 and 8.00.
As you’d probably expect, wins come from matching three or more (two or more for the bell) consecutive symbols across a payline. The size of your reward is calculated by multiplying the value of your symbols (as displayed on the paytable) by the coin bet, except the scatter, which is multiplied by the total bet. Five matches will bring the highest possible prizes:
Grapes, Oranges, Lemons, Plums - 80
Watermelon - 200
Cherries scatter - 250
7 - 300
Bell - 1200
Juicy Stacks Bonus Features
Fruit machines aren’t always the best for features. If you want a free spins bonus, you’ll have to look elsewhere. You do, however, have both wild and scatter symbols, which don’t always show up on these kinds of classic slots. The wild can act as a substitute for other symbols, whilst the scatter can pay from anywhere - it doesn’t have to be part of the consecutive left to right line.
Juicy Stacks Review
Sometimes it’s nice to just relax back into a classic slot without having to worry about dizzying graphics or complicated, confusing bonus features. Juicy Stacks shows the beauty in simplicity, offering the smoothest basic gameplay without any distractions. If you want something with a few more twists, you might try Skywind's Wild Ride slot, but Juicy Stacks will definitely suit the nostalgic among you.
