Online Gambling in Mississippi

Many players might still wonder: “Is online gambling legal in Mississippi?”. The answer to this question is rather complex and depends on the type of gambling you are interested in.

If you want to play slot machines, roulette, baccarat, or blackjack while chillin’ in your backyard, we don’t have any good news for you. Online gambling Mississippi is not something that comes up in conversation too often, at least when it comes to classic casino games, as this is still not legal.

What makes things interesting is the fact that none of the lawmakers seems interested in pushing some sort of Bill or amendment that would make it happen! Still, there is a glimpse of hope that there will be a change on the horizon for future online casino Mississippi options, which is linked online sports betting getting a seal of approval, but more on that later.

Online Poker

Online poker is a popular game that helped millions of players worldwide find a table with a company that suits them. Yet, poker fans from the Hospitality State will still have to wait until authorities make online poker 100% legal. Namely, the Mississippi Gaming Commission is pretty clear about online gaming - all its forms are illegal unless explicitly stated otherwise.

There are no licensed poker sites in this state and finding real money online casino Mississippi sites that might have a poker table or two is downright impossible. For now, all you can do is wait.

Online Betting

Okay, here’s the thing. There is no denying there is legal sports betting in Mississippi. Albeit limited to casino areas, players can use their mobile phones with special apps installed or place bets on terminals. But keep in mind that mobile betting on site is the closest thing to any legal sports betting Mississippi options you have, at least for now.

On January 3, 2022, Republican politician Cedric Burnett introduced the online sports betting Bill HB 184 in the Mississippi Legislature. The Bill proposed the legalization of online sports betting, organized, and provided by license holders. The document also tackled esports and suggested the legalization of esports betting, as well. Although it received favorable reviews, it failed to pass the voting in February, just like three other similar Bills.

To conclude, you can bet via your mobile phone, but only at the retailer’s premises. Still, that doesn’t make the experience something we would describe as online sports betting. Maybe 2023 will be the lucky year for all punters in Mississippi? We can’t say for sure, but as more and more states decide to introduce some order to the world of sports betting, we are sure this state will do the same at some point. Stay tuned, and we will keep you updated with any changes on the sports betting Mississippi conversation in the future.

Top Gambling Cities in Mississippi

Okay, so you can’t play at an online casino in Mississippi, but there are still plenty of towns, counties, and cities worth visiting. The Mississippi casino scene is pretty strong, with well over 30 establishments statewide.

Biloxi, Harrison County

Biloxi is the glitziest casino city in Mississippi. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, it is a place that shines as bright as Las Vegas, but with a dash of sunny, sandy beaches that are ideal for taking a break from all that gaming. The most notable establishments include Golden Nugget Biloxi Hotel & Casino, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi, and Island View Casino.

Tunica, Tunica County

Tunica used to be one of the most impoverished cities in the US, yet the 1990s legalization made it a gambling hotspot. This lavish gambling city in Mississippi is home to six high-end establishments, including Hollywood Casino & Hotel Tunica, Horseshoe Tunica, and 1st Jackpot Casino Tunica.

Tribal Gaming

Tribal gaming in Mississippi is not as developed as in some states up North, despite the fact that Magnolia State is known for several tribes, including the Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Natchez. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians owns and operates three Class III Indian casinos. The same tribe also planned a fourth casino in Jones County. After a referendum, the Choctaws decided against the idea.

And while local tribes are a bit hesitant to take a major leap into the world of gambling, Cherokee Nation Businesses does not lack determination. The Cherokee tribe announced the acquisition of Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica. The tribe will pay $450 million in cash to MGM Resorts.

Cherokee Nation Entertainment (CNE) looks forward to the new site, so it didn’t miss out on the opportunity to inform the public how the tribe has a “rich history of operating award-winning hospitality destinations” in Oklahoma. According to the statement, they plan to keep the same level of service and continue to grow. Gold Strike Casino Resort includes a 50,000-square-foot casino, where visitors can enjoy 1,200 slot machines, eight table games, and a sportsbook.
