Introduction

CQ9 is a Chinese gaming company and Coin Spinner, like some other CQ9 free slots, adds a unique Asian twist to the format of a traditional fruit themed slot. It’s an interesting reversal of the way a company like Nolimit City takes its gameplay to an Asian setting, as in a game like its Coins of Fortune slot. Coin Spinner opts for very simple gameplay, with some extremely unusual cartoon graphics.

Coin Spinner uses a very traditional 3-reel grid with 3 rows and just the one central horizontal win line. The minimum bet size is 0.60 and the maximum is 1500. There are 4 regular symbols which appear in various mixtures: there are the three masked pigs, one in red, one blue and one purple, then there are gold coins and red coins. There is also a lightning bolt for a ‘rewin’ and a hammer for thr bonus game.

Theme, Graphics and Soundtrack

At the risk of sounding a little colloquial, we’re tempted to say this game is ever so slightly bonkers. Psychotic masked pigs, violent attacks, coins with pigs’ noses on them, a moss-covered temple, pirates, astronauts and aliens who have clearly got a bit lost on their journey. In fact the pigs could be related to the Angry Birds’ enemies, which may account for the familiarity of their appearance. The hammer, the charging barrel and the partially visible, self-igniting spinning wheel just add to the mayhem.

The cartoonish elements are consistent and appealing, from the 2-dimensional clouds to the desert island and moonscape in the bonus game. Meanwhile the soundtrack is bizarre, with electronic keyboards, brass and xylophone playing music that seems wildly inappropriate but no more crazy than everything else about it.

It’s impossible not to be won over by the sheer silliness of the whole experience, which comes as welcome relief from more earnest fantasy and adventure games as well as dour casino-based offerings. The narrative, such as it is, makes no sense, but it’s all good fun.

Coin Spinner Bonus Features

Bonus Game Feature

If you manage to land wins and charge the battery power of the hammer you will win 1 chance to attack the village. When the hammer rack at the top of the grid is full you are awarded access to bon us games and 3 chances to attack the village. The energy gauges of different bets are accumulated separately. When you move into the attack mode you select from one of three targets, including an elephant, a spaceship, an astronaut, a pirate captain and a treasure chest in the various villages. The three options will award you 2x, 5x or 10x.

If you gain anything from 1 to 5 charges in the lightning bolt device, you qualify for a roulette ‘rewin’.

Buy Feature

If you prefer not to wait for wins to trigger the bonus feature you can buy your chance to attack the village instead.

Coin Spinner Review: Our Verdict

Essentially an old-fashioned one-armed bandit game, Coin Spinner looks at first sight like a very straightforward game. CQ9 have broken with tradition to a degree by adding the bonus game in which you accompany one of the pigs, armed with the hammer, to attack any one of a number of villages (including one named after Jennifer Lopez for no good reason) in order to win multipliers. So the base game is extremely simple - and good for beginners - but with fairly frequent wins you get quite a few goes at the bonus game. Oddly enjoyable.

FAQs

What is the RTP and variance?

Unfortunately for this game the RTP and variance are not recorded.

What does RTP actually mean?

RTP stands for Return to Player. What this tells you is the percentage a player will receive back on average. However, the average is calculated on the basis of all win levels. This means that since every RTP is less than 100 per cent the level of player losses always outweighs the wins. A player will always tend to see a return that is lower than their total stake.

Are the spin results genuinely random?

Yes. All spins are controlled by random number generation algorithms which means there can’t be any human influence over the results. There is no connection between one spin and the next, no change in the likelihood of any combination occurring. The spins are completely random and therefore there is no way a player can influence the game. It is one of pure chance.
