Crystal Quest: Frostlands Slot Review

The Crystal Quest series from Thunderkick always brings players interesting themes with uniquely designed graphics. However, the gameplay isn’t always as amusing. In Frostlands, there really isn’t much going on so it falls a little bit flat.

The Massive Symbols are a nice touch, but they rarely make a difference in your wins. Only non-bonus symbols can land as massive symbols, so it’s not the most useful feature – and, even if it were, it doesn’t land often enough to matter.

Sadly, the free spins bonus in Crystal Quest Frostlands isn’t all that engaging either. It’s basically the base game except, well, free. The multiplier doesn’t reset either but that’s not anything super ground-breaking.

The Positives

We do love the Wild Explosion feature, though, which is found all of the Crystal Quest slot games from Thunderkick. It’s adds a little bit more oomph to the base game, especially when combined with the increasing multipliers.

A Change of Pace for Thunderkick

When Thunderkick first hit the slots market in 2012, the company was known for its quirky themes and unusual gameplay. Slots like Turning Totems and Esqueleto Explosivo had innovative features while Babushkas and Pink Elephants were known for their unique designs.

So, it’s surprising to see this studio creating relatively formulaic slots. The games the Crystal Quest and Beat The Beast series are fun but they do end up being a bit too similar, and we’d love to see Thunderkick going in a more experimental direction again.
