Satsumos Revenge Slot

Review for Canadians, Demo Play & Payout Info

If a Sumo wrestler crossed with a citrus fruit carrying out a revenge mission is your idea of fun, Satsumos Revenge has everything you’re looking for. The intro s...tarts with a giant man’s face made out of orange peel that might look like some people you’ve met. You can’t help wondering what they put in the coffee machine at the Playtech offices. There was actually a Satsuma Rebellion, which was a revolt of Samurai in 1877. However, perhaps Playtech could be referring to the Satsumo, the supersized fruit sibling of the Satsuma with a 12” waist? This must be it, because Satsumo doesn’t look like a guy who’s been on a diet recently. The fruits have been interbred to be bigger. What makes a satsuma cross? Lots of things, judging by the expression on Satsumo’s face. This five-reel, 25-payline video slot released in December 2017 is a weird mixture of elegance and complete craziness. The setting is a beautiful room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a polished wooden floor. There’s an ancient bonsai tree and a grandmaster in robes who wipes his beard every so often. One of the great features of the playing area is that you can click on any of the symbols and see a brief explanation of what they are - for example, a wild - and learn the amount that the symbol pays when several appear. The whole look of the game is really good fun. The symbols have funny expressions and all turn their heads to look at each other. The playing card symbols look like juicy sweets from Haribo. The fighters are so gung-ho that they’re climbing out of their reels, brandishing swords and waiting for another fighter to show up for a bout. Paylines are clearly shown with spinning golden circles.

Shuriken wilds

In feudal Japan, a shuriken was a concealed weapon that was often in the shape of a star. Today, these weapons are known as ninja stars or throwing stars. They were used to distract an opponent while the Samurai got to work with their sword. Shuriken have different forms, and the one that is the wild in this game is a beautifully sculpted star with sharp blades.

The Shuriken wild substitutes for all symbols except the scatters, and it can also bring you more wilds. When a Shuriken shows up on reel 5, the grandmaster spins up to three more Shurikens across the playing area to embed themselves in the relevant reel and produce the golden dragon wild.

When the Shuriken shows up on a normal reel, the whole reel turns into an expanded wild. It’s possible for the Shuriken to land on a reel that already has an expanded wild and is being multiplied by 2. When that happens, the multiplier increases to 3.

Wilder and wilder!

There is another wild in the form of a beautiful golden tiger. Expanded wilds in the form of a golden dragon are hurled onto random reels, turning the whole reel wild and adding win multipliers!

Fighting Free Games - Rock, Paper, Scissors

The land fighters are the little round guys who look a bit like malevolent Smarties with red and blue headbands. These can land on reels 1 and 5, and when they do, they set off the fighting free game. This is like a game within a game.

You have to choose a fighter and then engage your opponent in a deadly duel by choosing rock, paper or scissors. You start out with five lives. If you win a round, the grandmaster awards you an extra free game with a sticky wild. If you lose, you lose one life. If you draw, you still get one free game, and no lives are lost on either side.

If you win the match, you get another free game. Even better, you will get to keep all your sticky wild symbols. The Fighting Free Games feature ends when one of the fighters has finally lost all of his lives.

Smiling strawberries, leering limes

The crazed satsumo character is the highest-paying symbol in the game. Five of him will get you 1,000. Four get you 200 and three get you 40.

Then there’s the smiling strawberry with the eye patch. He scores the same as his chum, the leery lime. Get five of either and you score 300, while four will score 100 and three will score 20.

Two cherries with eyes peeping out are up next. Five will get you 150, four will get you 50 and three will get you 10. That’s the same score as the blueberry with the moustache and the distinctly bloodshot eyes.

When it comes to the playing cards, five Aces are 100, four Aces are 30, three Aces are five. The King scores 75 for five, 20 for four and 5 for three appearances. The queen scores 75, 20 and 5 for five, four and three appearances. The Jack and Ten follow the same scoring scheme; if you get five of them, you score 50, four of them will score you 15, and three of them will allow you to score 5.

Scatters can trigger from any position. Note that all wins pay from left to right, but only one win - the highest - is paid on any line.

Controlling bets in Satsumo’s Revenge

The line bet differs from the total bet. The line bet is how much you want to wager on a single payline. The total bet is the full amount you’re wagering on a single spin. Any of the payouts described above and shown in the game’s paytable are multiplied by the line bet you have set. To increase or decrease the line bet, use the + and - buttons. When you win, the Win area shows your total winnings.

In this game, all 25 paylines are always active. Click the “i” button to see the paytable. Note that winning combos have to start from the first reel on the left and must be on each consecutive reel.

Using the Auto feature

Click once on the Auto button to see a list of options for autospins. These are 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 spins, or “Until Feature”. That last one means that the spins will continue until one of the main features is triggered. If you want to stop Autoplay mode, it’s simple. During Autoplay, the spin button displays the word “Stop”, and you can click it to stop the autospin.

The return to player (RTP) is 95.83% on Satsumos Revenge, but keep in mind that’s over thousands of spins. In fact, Playtech’s information and rules page clearly states that is the “theoretical” return.

Watch out - mobile fruit about

With a full HTML5 release, Satsumos Revenge can be enjoyed on desktop, mobile and tablet.

Exploring this theme further

If you’re fascinated by Asian culture and the somewhat quirky take on it of slot game developers, here are some other asian slots you’ll enjoy.

Another Playtech free spins slot is Silent Samurai. This features a Samurai warrior, dragon, Geisha, amulet and other Japanese-themed symbols. The bonus round features ninjas with special powers, and when you hit a special ninja, three more are triggered so your wins build up. It’s one of those great games where you can win spins on spins, and there’s a fun gamble feature. If you’ve won, you can play double or quit with your winnings by guessing the colour of the next card to be shown. In fact, you can do this up to five times - if you can bear the tension!

Ninja Ways from Red Tiger Gaming is brilliantly drawn in Japanese “manga” style. It’s also got six reels, which is a first for Red Tiger. There’s an amazing Ninja Door feature, which expands to take up to 4x4 spaces on the reels. The Ninja moves across the reels, and wherever he’s been, you’ll find multiplier wilds. In the Ninja Ways feature, the Ninja leaps around, leaving matching symbols in his wake.

Not to be left out, iSoftBet offers a game titled “Ninja Chef”. This features a ninja running a kitchen, and you have to help him turn out various dishes. These include the famous puffer fish, which is deadly poisonous if it’s not prepared properly. Remember the Simpsons episode where Homer thinks he’s dying and stays up all night trying to pray? He had eaten a puffer fish. Hopefully our Ninja knows what he’s doing in the kitchen. Needless to say, the puffer fish is the highest-paying symbol.

Wild Orient from Microgaming has restful music and a wildlife theme complete with animals such as pandas, tigers, exotic birds, monkeys and elephants. What’s very different about this slot is that you can choose to respin one of the reels in an attempt to get a winning line. You’ll have to pay different amounts to spin different reels. The cost of respinning an individual reel changes dynamically. It’s a really interesting idea and one that could inspire other gaming developments.

Fu Dao Le is new from Bally, and it started life as a land-based casino game. This slot has the most fantastic cheer-you-up graphics, with goldfish laughing and giggling babies. Fu Dao Le has expanding wilds and a Mystery Stacked Reels bonus round. The game features the lucky red envelopes that are gifted at Chinese New Year, and they may gift you with a nice win.

Our last game has a martial arts theme that will appeal if you like your martial arts experts furry and kind of plump. The Paws of Fury slot, subtitled Enter the Panda, from Blueprint Gaming has a progressive jackpot and a great soundtrack. We have a kung fu panda and lots of themed symbols - pagodas, lucky scrolls and dishes of dim sum. There are half a dozen different features and bonuses, including a pick-a-prize round and the Panda Warrior special, where the reels expand to give you 40 paylines. Collect crowns during the game, and if you can manage to get 15, you’ll trigger the jackpot bonus wheel. You could end up with a great multiplier or win the progressive jackpot!

Playtech

Playtech was founded in Estonia in 1999 by a man called Teddy Sagi. It’s now the largest designer and licencer of games. It’s listed on the London Stock Exchange and is one of the UK’s top 250 companies. It has been busy acquiring other companies and expanding its activities. It doesn’t just design games; it also provides software and technology for casino operators and bookies, and its software is used for betting terminals in high street shops such as Ladbrokes and Paddy Power.

It’s a powerhouse when it comes to slots gaming. Age of the Gods, The Flintstones, Top Gun, Ace Ventura, Spamalot, Superman, American Dad, Gladiator, and Sultan’s Gold are just a few of its offerings.

Playtech recognised the importance of mobile gaming early on, and their mobile products embraced HTML5. This means that they will run well on iPhones, Android phones or Windows-based phones.

Playtech’s shares have taken a dive recently because more markets are becoming regulated, and the outlook in China, one of its key markets, is uncertain. However, it has a very diverse business model, so it is likely to weather any storms in the industry.

Playing sensibly

Slots Temple is a great choice because you can try out and learn slots for free. Even though you’re not wagering money, you are spending time. Try not to play so much that it has a bad effect on anything you need to do, such as working, studying or spending time with your family.

Satsumos Revenge
