How to Win

To hit winning combinations in Io, you have to land three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels. The 7 is the most generous symbol in the game that provides you with a 5x payout for 7-of-a-kind.

Whenever you hit a winning combination, the gravity mechanic comes into play. Instead of a normal cascade, where the winning symbols disappear and new symbols fall into their places, the remaining symbols roll either to the left or right of the game. Then, more symbols fall on to the screen to create additional winning ways – up to a maximum of 262,144. Free Spins and Bonuses

A number of bonus features are available in Io. The first one that you’re likely to encounter in the base game is the Charged Wild. This wild has four lives, and a life is used up when it is involved in a win. Then, instead of disappearing, it stays on the reels with its additional 3 lives. This will continue until the next spin or until all four lives are used up.

Then, there’s the Wild Forge. This feature will fill up a space beneath a wild and apply a multiplier to the symbol. Every time the wild is involved in a win, the multiplier will increase.

Overall Review

We really loved ELK Studios’ Cygnus, and it’s great that the developer has come out with another game that features this format. This is such an interesting mechanic that brings something totally unique to the online gaming market, and it really keeps you entertained as you spin the reels.

While Io has the same variance as Cygnus, we found that wins were a bit more sparse. So, we found it to be closer to a 9/10 in terms of volatility, as we didn’t seem to land many payouts but we were lucky enough to bag a 200x win during the base game.

Overall, Io is a great online slot that is certainly worth a spin if you’re a fan of this particular format. All of the base game features elevate the gameplay even further, so you’re in for a fun time while playing Io slots from ELK Studios.
