Mechanical Clover review: our verdict

This game is billed by BGaming as an explosive combination of smart modern features and retro steampunk style. Whether it delivers this is another matter. In our opinion, the theme is a strange mix of steampunk and Irish pub design and doesn’t have the edgy appeal of true steampunk. When you look at the paytable of symbols, it also feels like the designers couldn’t really be bothered with coming up with many theme-related ideas. They managed to stick a pair of steampunk hats on the reels but then seemed to lose interest with the theme and just went with 7s and fruit. The fruit has had a bit of a mechanical makeover; however, this theme has the ability to offer some really exciting and interesting ideas, which simply did not materialise in this case. 

The prizes are just as uninspiring, as are the bonuses on offer. We know that this is supposed to be a classic-style slot with a slightly different theme, but this just makes it feel like it doesn’t really know what it wants to be or where it will fit into the online slots market. It is not one for the purist who likes a classic fruit-themed, super-simple slot, nor will it be the slot of choice for players looking for advanced online adventures.
