Mardi Gras Casino & Resort WV Review
Compared to the wide choice available in some states, West Virginia casinos are pretty thin on the ground. This Cross Lanes casino is one of just five and, as is common in West Virginia, it is a racino, with greyhound racing in addition to the casino facilities. Mardi Gras is located 14 miles to the west of Charleston and 36 miles east of Huntington, in the town of Nitro, off the Cross Lanes exit of I-64. Open 24 hours a day, it has 60,000 square feet of gaming space.
Casino Games
The casino has nearly 1,000 slot machines, physical versions of many of the online slots USA gamers have made popular. There are also table games, poker, online sports book betting and of course the on-site greyhound racing track.
Slots
There is a very well-equipped slot floor which offers you a choice between regular gaming and a high rollers’ room where betting big gives you the chance of substantial jackpots along with the excitement of greater risk. Mardi Gras has over 250 varieties of game, progressive jackpots, Ticket In-Ticket Out facility and denominations ranging from pennies, nickels and quarters up to £25.
Table Games
There are 30 table games, including perennial favorites like Craps, Blackjack, Roulette and many more. The Mardi Gras Casino & Resort poker room runs up to five tables on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with ten in action on Fridays and Saturdays.
History
The Mardi Gras Casino and Resort expanded its casino offer considerably after legalization in 2007. Back then it was known as the Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center, then the Tri-State Casino and Resort until the adoption of its Mardi Gras theme prompted the most recent name change. It is owned by Delaware North.
Features and Amenities
In addition to the casino and the racetrack there are plenty of other attractions, including four restaurants and a bar plus free entertainment at Louie’s Lounge and the on-site hotel. The greyhound racing program runs all year round with live races and simulcasts. Live racing takes place at 7pm every week from Tuesday through Saturday.
Dining
There are four restaurants at Mardi Gras. The French Quarter is an upscale eatery, smart but casual, while less formal dining is available at the Buffet, The Grill at First Turn and Café Orleans. The Sports Bar serves drinks and snacks to sustain you while you watch the mega screen sports entertainment.
Accommodation
The Mardi Gras Casino & Resort hotel has 150 rooms and suites with all the in-room luxuries you would expect: 40-inch TVs in standard rooms and larger ones in the suites, work desk, telephones, safe, iPod dock and Wi-Fi. Cooked-to-order breakfast is free. The hotel also has an exercise center, pool and hot tub.
Loyalty Program
There is a generous loyalty program called the Lucky North Club, which lets you earn points through the Players Club on your casino play and live racing wagers, entitling you to same-day cashback, food discounts, concert tickets, hotel offers and more. You’ll have priority access to special promotions, and it is completely free to join.
