Theme & Graphics

Reminiscent of games like Tetris, this simple cube game features a brightly-coloured block of smaller cubes in a 5x5 format. This can extend to up an 11x11 layout. The cubes come in a range of colours including yellow, green, blue and purple. In the background is a black and anthracite wallpaper featuring piles of cubes. From time to time, a light animation flows across the background highlighting the edges of the cubes. The game is played alongside an atmospheric staccato soundtrack.

How to Play Cubes

1. Head to the lower right of the grid to make a total wager of between 0.20 and 1.00.

2. Use the large spin button to get started or hit the smaller autospin button (to the right of the spin button) to choose up to 1000 automated spins with advanced settings.

Cubes Bonus Features

Expanding Grid

At each ‘spin’, the cubes are jumbled up and land in a different order. If five or more same-coloured cubes are connected in a cluster, not only is that a win, but it triggers two additional lines and two additional columns of cubes. That increases the grid from 5x5 to 7x7 the first time it happens. Should this increase the size of the cluster, the grid will increase again, up to a maximum of 11x11 or until the cluster no longer increases in size. The player will then be awarded the win for the final size of the cluster.

Middle multiplier

The central cube will always display a multiplier symbol. Any cluster that includes this central cube will therefore have a multiplied win. The multiplier amount will be determined by the number of cubes in a cluster (for example, five cubes for a x5 multiplier), with a max multiplier of up to x22. This is not in play during the free spins feature.

Free Spins

Five different-coloured clusters will trigger the free spins feature. For each cluster, one of the letters in the word CUBES will be highlighted. This will continue until the grid no longer expands and a new game is played. Should all five letters in the word CUBES become highlighted, the free spins feature will begin. Before it begins, a bonus pick-screen appears where players choose one of six boxes with a question mark. This will reveal the number of free spins (up to ten) and also the colour that will be Sticky for the feature. Once the feature begins, the background turns into various shades of green. The appearance of any ‘Sticky’ colour cubes will stay in place for the duration of the feature. Furthermore, if the grid enlarges, it will stay that size for the remainder of the feature. During free spins, players may also win the Colour Burst feature, whereby a cluster of 70 cubes pays out a win of x2500.

Our Verdict

A fabulously retro-style game in the popular Pocketz Series, Cubes isn’t a typical slot game. In fact, there are no reels and no paylines. We love the atypical format of the game whereby wins come from landing clusters of coloured blocks. The myriad of bonus features include an Expanding Grid, Middle Multiplier, Sticky Cubes and Free Spins to insure an almost non-stop run of action. A top win of x3000 is pretty decent.
