She’s joined on the reels by Poseidon, the god of the sea who was so captivated by her loveliness that he seduced her in a temple dedicated to Athena. Unsurprisingly Athena was less than pleased, and cursed Medusa for falling in love with a deity.

The only snakes in this version of the Medusa story are on one of the charms given to her by Poseidon. And the only angry character is Athena, who has a face like thunder. She’s still a welcome sight on the reels though, as she heralds the start of the Free Spins bonus! And the game is pulled together with a gentle, romantic soundtrack - although you can easily mute it if it’s not to your taste.

For a pocket-sized game Medusa is certainly packed with bonus features. And they start with the Wild, which only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, but which can stand in for any symbol on the paytable. The only thing it can’t substitute for is the game’s Scatter.

Overall Review

We thought we knew all about Medusa, but this game is a revelation, showing her as the woman she used to be before the gods intervened. And the number of bonus features is as astonishing as the game’s theme - for a pocket-sized game Medusa really punches well above its weight.

Be careful about the relatively high volatility though - we found it tricky to activate the bonuses, although once they land they can deliver some generous returns. Try the game out for free before risking your own cash, and remember to never wager more than you can afford to lose!
