Microgaming has recently released a sequel to its popular Avalon online slots game. Avalon II slots presents players with a new take on the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table with enhanced graphics and more bonus features.
Although Avalon II is new and improved, is it really better than the original?
Graphics and Sound
The original Avalon slots game had impressive graphics at the time of its release, but they are now quite outdated. The symbols are not animated and the reels look like they could be belong to any other online slot. The soundtrack is a saving grace with calming medieval music.
However, when wins are made, the game plays a basic slot machine ringtone that you would hear in a land-based casino.
Avalon II presents much better graphics than the original. While it is not one of the best-looking online slots games that we’ve seen, it is certainly more polished that the first Avalon game. The symbols include pictures of mythical characters and the backdrop is set against a misty landscape.
Format
The first Avalon online slot is a 5-reel 20-payline game. As such, there are only 20 possible winning combinations that players can make. Avalon II is a 243-ways-to-win slots game, meaning that there are no particular paylines. Instead, players automatically trigger all 243 winning combinations at once.
However, while there are more winning possibilities, we did not notice a huge jump in volatility while playing Avalon II.
Bonuses
In the original Avalon slot machine, there are relatively few bonus features. At the time of the game’s release, they were very generous – but, since then, many new bonus features have been introduced into the online slots gaming market. As such, modern players will likely want something more than 12 free spins and a wild symbol (although the 7x multiplier is very attractive!).
Avalon II slot provides players with plenty more choices when it comes to bonus features.
As you progress through the game, you can take part in eight different bonus features. Misty Vale, Morgan’s Keep and Forest Falls are free spins games, which offer players trailing wilds, extra wilds and rolling reels.
Lake of Legends is a dice game while Isle of Avalon is a prize wheel and Whispering Woods is a pick-a-prize round. In Hall of Shadows, players face off against a dark knight to win a generous prize.
The choice may be overwhelming to traditional slots players, but modern gamers will enjoy having so many bonus games to choose from.
