Woman Wins $600K Over Discrimination At Casino
In 2013, Diane Harris sued the Greektown Casino in in Detroit after she was passed over for a promotion. The African American woman had worked at the casino as a beverage supervisor for a decade.
A managerial position opened up and Diane applied. She had assumed that the job was hers after she interviewed for the job and was given the duties of the manager. However, the actual job was given to a younger Caucasian woman.
The woman who was hired to do the job was unable to perform the duties and was fired. Another Caucasian woman was hired to replace her, and Harris was required to train her.

Players Win $1.5 Million After Being Denied Winnings
In April 2012, a group of players at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City sued the casino after they were denied $1.5 million in winnings. They had been playing baccarat when a pattern emerged in the cards. They quickly caught on and increased their wagers. They had won $1.5 million over 41 consecutive hands when casino management stepped in.
Casino staff was sure that the patrons had cheated, and they detained the players to search their rooms. After it was proven that the players hadn’t cheated, it was revealed that the pattern was a result of the cards not having been shuffled properly before being delivered to the casino.
Some of the players received $600 000 but the remaining $900 000 was held by the casino. The casino operator sued to have the payout returned but the players filed a countersuit for the money that the casino was withholding.
In the end, the judge sided with the players. He said that they did not know whether or not the pattern would end, so they were still gambling.
