Today, Microgaming released its new Game of Thrones slots game. The title has been highly anticipated for months, and players are eager to give it a spin at their favourite Microgaming-powered online casino.

One of the features that we found to be the most interesting is the fact that players can choose to play with a 15 payline format or a 243 Ways to Win Format.

So, we decided to give both versions a spin and compare the gameplay. For the purposes of this review, we’ll refer to the 15-payline version as Game A and the 243 Ways to Win version as Game B.

Differences

The obvious difference is the potential number of winning combinations that you get with each spin. In Game A, there are 15 potential ways to make winning combinations. In Game B, there are 243. In Game A, the maximum a player can win per spin is $75 000. In Game B, the maximum amount of money a player can win per spin is $121 000.

15 Payline Payouts

In Game A, we made 60 wagers at a total stake of $6 each ($.10 coin value and 4 coins). We hit 13 wins offering a total prize worth $88.40. We triggered the scatter bonus twice, and the free spins round once for $313.

243 Ways to Win Payouts

In Game B, we made 60 wagers at a total stake of $6 each (0.02 coin value and 10 coins). We hit 14 wins offering a total prize worth $114.60. We triggered the scatter bonus six times and did not trigger the free spins round at all. However, we are doubtful that the format of the game has much bearing on how likely it is to trigger the free spins bonus.

Our Verdict

As Game B was the more profitable version, we are more inclined to choose it as our favourite. We experienced bigger wins more frequently even though we spent the same amount of money per spin as we spent on Game A. 243 Ways to Win slots are commonly considered to be quite expensive to play while awarding generous prizes – but, we noticed that we still earned a generous payout when wagering a relatively small amount.

However, the fact that we triggered the free spins bonus in Game A certainly made our decision quite difficult.

Overall, Game A paid out more money but Game B paid out more frequently and with bigger prizes. As such, we feel that Game B is a safer bet while Game A is a better choice for players that enjoy a thrill.
