The popular television series Mad Men has now been made into a slot machine by Williams Interactive (WMS).

While we originally thought that a serious television drama could not possibly make for a great slots game, we took one look at this title and quickly reconsidered our stance.

The Series

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past eight years, you’ve surely heard of the television show Mad Men. It chronicles the operation of an advertising agency during the 1950s and 1960s, with a special focus on Creative Director Don Draper. The show provides a glimpse back in time, and has inspired the newly reignited interest in anything ‘vintage’.

While the show is now in its final season, Mad Men will certainly continue to be a cult classic years after it is off the air.

The Cabinet

When dealing with a show like Mad Men, WMS had to take care in ensuring that the slot machine maintains the cool and sophisticated air of Don Draper’s 1950s. Recent TV-based slots like The Walking Dead can afford to be outrageous and vibrant because they are exciting action shows – but Mad Men features a subdued and cool air.

WMS did a good job of creating a cabinet that will draw players in while still maintaining the sophisticated feeling of Mad Men. It features a red and black colour scheme with a large 42” curved glass top box.

The graphics aren’t too in-your-face but the cabinet certainly does command attention.

The Look

The new Mad Men slots game from WMS successfully merges the television show and its characters with casino gameplay. The symbols feature main characters like Joan, Roger and Don while the gameplay is interspersed with classic scenes from the film.

We also loved the ‘falling reels’ and ‘falling wilds’ bonuses, which imitate the iconic title sequence of the series. Any Mad Men fan will appreciate the overall look and design of this title.

The Gameplay

Mad Men slots is full of bonus features that slots fans will appreciate. There are plenty of on-screen and off-screen bonuses for players to enjoy.

Don Draper Bonus: The player picks an advertisement for a multiplier prize. The maximum prize is a 50x multipler.

Joan Holloway Bonus:An expanded Joan symbol appears on the reels and occupies 9 spaces to grant extra winning potential.

Roger Sterling Bonus: Four glasses are presented to the player, and each one contains a certain number of wilds that will be added to the reels for a single spin.

Our Verdict

The new Mad Men slots game is certainly worth a spin. It is early in the year, but this title is one of our picks for the best game of 2015.
