Professionals from some of the top gaming firms have come together to create Pixelmatic. This new social gaming developer aims redefine the market by creating ‘true social games’ that players can enjoy.

The Brains Behind Pixelmatic

Pixelmatic brings together former employees of Ubisoft, Activision, Blizzard and Relic. Samson Mow, founder and CEO of Pixelmatic, previously worked at UbiSoft as the Director of Production and Executive Producer. He worked on a number of MMOs and social games, including Might & Magic: Heroes Kingdoms and Castle and Co.

CFO Nat Mak worked at Relic on a wide range of games, such as Company of Heroes and Dawn of War. CTO Cong Li was a software developer for Activision while Advisor Gage Galinger previously worked at Blizzard.

Pixelmatic’s Vision

“Most social games still employ very rudimentary social mechanics and aren’t really all that social – we aim to change that”. Pixelmatic wants to redefine the social gaming genre.

Since social games were first introduced, they have developed very little. Players cannot use social games to interact with their friends in new and innovative ways. They are still limited to sharing their scores, competing with friends and asking for assistance.

The team at Pixelmatic aim to develop these existing systems, and allow players to socialize in a new way.

When Will Pixelmatic’s First Game Be Released?

Pixelmatic is in the process of developing its first social games, and few details have been released. What we do know is that the game will first be available for Japanese games, and we hope that European and North American launches will follow shortly thereafter.

The game will be available for both iOS and Android devices, and it will be published by 6waves.

Will Pixelmatic Produce Slots and Casino Games?

We certainly hope so! More and more social gaming developers are introducing casino games and slots into their collections. EA has recently launched a new Monopoly-themed slots game while Zynga continues to experiment with new social casino titles.

It is certainly an untapped market among social gaming developers, and it would serve Pixelmatic well to get involved.

What We Would Like To See From Pixelmatic

It would be great for the social gaming market if Pixelmatic developed a true community for social gamers. Since employees at the firm have worked for Blizzard, they know a thing or two about creating a successful online gaming community. We would like to see players being encouraged to interact on a deeper level and urged to collaborate in order to achieve common goals in social games.
