Social gaming has becoming a universally popular trend. Whether internet users have access to gaming from their mobile devices or their personal computers, they are equally as likely to take part in social games – but their behaviour on each platform differs.

A new study by Playnomics offers insight into players habits on mobile devices and computers.

Spending

An interesting finding from the study noted that mobile players are more likely to spend money on social games, and they do so more quickly. In fact, mobile gamers spend 64% of their total gaming expenditure on the first day of playing a game. Only 10% of online users will do the same.

This is quite likely due to the fact that mobile billing for games is a much easier process. Many games allow players to put charges on their phone bills. web games, players are faced with the purchase immediately. They are redirected to a payment system, so they have the chance to reconsider their purchase.

In other cases, mobile payments are carried out in one-click processes, whereas computer must re-enter their payment information for every purchase they make.

Three is the Magic Number for Non-Mobile Users

The study also found that non-mobile players (computer users) will only spend money on games that hold their attention for three separate sessions.

74% of users who play a particular game three times in a week will spend money on the title. If they play less than three times, then they are not likely to make any in-game purchases.

All Social Gamers Created Equal

In many gaming markets, from core gaming to gambling, men and women exhibit very different behaviour. However, Playnomics notes that men and women have quite similar social gaming habits.

During the first 60 hours of play on a social game, men and women both display equal play time with men spending 113 minutes and women spending 105 minutes on their average session.

During the first 14 days, women will spend 72% of their total play time, compared to men who spend 62% of their total play time in the first 14 days.

Most Engaged Countries

The report also provided some surprising information about countries that are most engaged when it comes to social gaming. While you would expect the list to dominated by Asian and North American players, there are some very interesting findings.

The Top Ten consists of Turkey, South Korea, Macedonia, Albania, Lebanon, South Africa, Kuwait, Bahrain, Denmark and Cyprus. Of those countries, Turkish players spend the most time playing social games, as the average gamer plays for 848 hours. Macedonia players play for an average of 402 hours.
