In the online casino world, it is no uncommon for developers to create sequels to their most popular slots. What is uncommon, however, is for a company to create two sequels. So, we wanted to take a look at one of the only trilogies in the online slots market: Zeus from WMS.

Zeus

The original Zeus game first made its debut as a slot machine in land-based venues. It is a 5-reel game with 30 paylines. The graphics are nothing special but the game is relatively old, so we’ll give WMS a pass. There is only one bonus feature available in the game, and it is free spins round.

However, when players hit 5 scatter symbols, they win 100 free spins – which is almost unheard of in the online slots market. The only downside is that the free spins bonus is quite difficult to trigger. Over 100 spins, we were only able to receive 10 free spins.

Zeus II

Zeus II featured 60 paylines, so players are offered even more generous ways to hit winning combinations. The graphics are basically the same as the first game, which is a little disappointing as Zeus II was released several years after the original.

What is great about this slot is its ‘Hot Hot Super Re-Spin’ feature, which is triggered when you bet an additional 10 credits.

When the lightning bolt symbols appear on the first three reels, players receive 10 bonus spins in which extra Zeus symbol are added to game for greater winning potential.

Zeus III

The third game in the series takes a very different direction, as it has 6 reels that are tapered. This means that each reel has more symbol positions than the last. The first two reels have 2, the second two reels have 4 and the last two reels have 6. What this results in is 192 total winning combinations!

There is a generous wild reels feature in which the Zeus symbol will turn an entire reel wild. Players can also trigger up to 50 free spins with a generous 50x multiplier.

What disappoints us about this title is the graphics. It seems to be a trend in this series, as the graphics are less impressive than we would expect from WMS.

There is so much potential to create an engaging look for Zeus, but all three games look quite plain – including the most recent version.

Verdict

With the most generous prizes and winning potential, Zeus III wins this edition of Sequel Wars. While the game could have better graphics, it still offers up a great gaming experience and offers up better chances of hitting bonuses than in the two previous games.
