The Look
Illuminous has a bright and vibrant design with impressive graphics. However, the overall theme is not particularly interesting. We’ve seen plenty of jewel-themed online slots in the past and, while this game looks great, it is not the most innovative and exciting design we’ve seen lately.
Hot Re-Spins
When two bonus symbols appear on the reels, the Hot Re-Spin bonus is triggered. The two reels on which the bonus symbols appeared with become ‘hot’, which means that additional wilds are added to the reels to help boost winning potential. Then, the player will receive one re-spin of the rest of the reels.
If another bonus symbol appears during the re-spin, the player will trigger yet another re-spin and another hot reel. This occurs until all reels are hot or until no more bonus symbols appear.
Free Spins
When three bonus symbols appear on the reels, then the player triggers 5 free spins. During this round, bonus symbols and wilds are very prevalent. So, it is very easy to trigger hot reels and re-spins. You can also trigger plenty more free spins.
Is That It For Bonuses?
Judging by the teaser trailer, there only seems to be two bonuses available in Illuminous online slots from QuickSpin. This is a little bit disappointing, as there is room for a great off-screen bonus – but, we can see why QuickSpin may have made this decision.
The Hot Reel bonus feature is quite generous and it seems like it can be triggered fairly often, so it is possible that an additional bonus game would make Illuminous a bit too generous.
How Does It Compare to Other Recent QuickSpin Releases?
Recently, QuickSpin has released several other online slots games – each with their own unique bonus features. Jewel Blast features Tumbling Reels and an interesting Blast Bonus in which the bonus symbols blow every other symbol away to create more opportunities for winning combinations. Appearance-wise, it is quite similar to Illuminous – but it doesn’t feature a free spins round, which is a bit of a deal-breaker for us.
If you’re going to play a recent QuickSpin release, go for Titan Thunder. This online slots game features a unique mythology theme and several unique bonus features.
During the base game, there are stacked symbols and the free spins round feature Titan Wilds that occupy 2x2 grids on the reels. It is definitely our top pick.
