The online slots market is seeing weirder and weirder themes for games, but they always seem to be based on fictional characters and brands. So, the release of IGT’s new Dolly Parton-themed slots seems even more peculiar.
It is not often that an online casino game is based on a real person, but IGT seems more than capable of pulling it off. Dolly Parton has always been a larger than life character, so it actually isn’t very hard to believe that she would lend her name to a casino game. In fact, she is even the spokesperson for a UK-based bingo website called Dolly Bingo.
Since this isn’t her first foray into the online gambling market, it makes the idea of basing an online slots game on the country music legend a bit more understandable.
“As you know, I love doing lots of different things, and this is the most different thing that I’ve done so far,” Parton says. “I’m very excited to be working with IGT with my very own video slot machines and five reel spinning reel games”.
What’s even more interesting is that this isn’t the first time an online slots game was based on a real-life musical act.
For example, IGT is also responsible for the creation of American Idol slots (with symbols featuring photos of popular contestants) and Elvis: A Little More Action (featuring a soundtrack of Elvis’ hits). Aristocrat also created a game called Rose Tattoo, based on the Australian rock band of the same name.
While the idea sounds somewhat cheesy, IGT has actually done a great job of making the new Dolly Parton online slots game quite tasteful. The game features a soundtrack of ten of Parton’s greatest hits, and you can choose which tracks to play while you spin the reels.
Her iconic voice is also used in the game, talking to players as they cash in on generous prizes. Another interesting feature is the use of concert footage throughout the game.
There are also plenty of bonus perks. Three Dolly Parton-themed slots games have been released and each one offers players access to four different bonus features. Wild Reels, Bonus Boost, Dolly Awards and Play That Video offer players the chance to earn extra cash prizes while they play the base game.
