There are two key players in the mobile gaming world: Android and Apple. In fact, Apple seems to have an intense rivalry with any competing company – but its mobile gaming competition with Android seems to be the most recent.
Hardware
Android offers a wider range of options when it comes to hardware, but Apple’s products are more renowned. Everyone seems to know what an iPad or an iPhone is, but not everyone will instantly recognize a Sony Xperia tablet or a Samsung Galaxy phone.
At one time, Apple was a leader in the hardware game, but other companies have quickly caught up. Samsung’s Galaxy S4 phone is getting rave reviews from critics and the Nexus 7 rivals the iPad 3.
While Apple devices are still the go-to for many consumers, they can be quite expensive. Android devices come in all shapes and sizes, so there is a tablet or phone for just about any budget.
While the lower-end of the spectrum may not be entirely impressive, they are affordable.
Game Selection
At the moment, there is a wider range of games for iOS devices than there is for Android tablets and phones. Apple was normally the first stop for more developers, but the gap is slowly closing.
Nowadays, cross-platform development and HTML5 are making it possible for developers to release games for iOS and Android devices at the same time.
Mobile Gambling Regulation
Previously, there were no app marketplaces would allow real-money casino games to be sold. Recently, Apple has changed its policy, and has included All Slots’ mobile app in its App Market. Android has yet to take this leap.
So, if you want to download a casino app, you have to visit the operator’s website. As such, they are not as accessible on Android devices. This could lead more gaming operators to make Apple a priority when releasing new mobile titles.
Other Options?
We could go as far as to say that there are not any other options. Blackberry devices and Windows phones are struggling to keep up. Blackberry has only just released its first touch-screen phone and Windows mobile devices are still relatively new.
As such, they can’t truly compete with Android or Apple at the moment. It could be years before either becomes viable competition and, in the meantime, it’s best to stick with iOS and Android hardware if you’re looking for a quality mobile gaming experience.
